Exams were over, the sun was shining, life was calm.
Well, maybe not that calm. Hagrid fled the school and McGonagall was sent to St. Mungo's and Umbridge was extra unhinged and Hyacinth was being sent back to the muggles in a few days. But hey, she wasn't in a graveyard. She wasn't running from a werewolf during the full moon. She wasn't possessed by a diary or distracting a Cerberus.
Do not speak too soon.
"Hyacinth."
The sound of her name being called almost made her scream in frustration. Instead she banged her head against the Common Room window, scaring the school of fish, and vocally groaned. That level of dramatics was much more her style.
Blaise Zabini approached her; it was nearly a year now since he last talked to her.
"Blaise, old comrade," she said jokingly, because even if she was mad at him for just abandoning her in the name of politics, she also understood it. She too did a lot of unsavory things in the name of politics. "What disaster has forced you to acknowledge me? A little late in the year to start our betting pool."
"I heard it from Theo, who heard it from Draco. Harry's in trouble."
That natural sibling reaction to tear through the school searching for her brother and curse whoever hurt him until they don't remember their name, even if they were fighting, bubbled up inside her. Hide your puny emotions. Hyacinth kept her face blank, shrugging her shoulders. "Okay, and? He's a big boy that can take care of himself."
Blaise put a large hand on either side of her face, forcing her to look at him. He smiled down at her with that warm grin of his. "Silly Hya, I'm not part of the audience you perform for. There's no need to lie to me."
You lie to everyone or you lie to no one.
She caved. "Where's Harry?"
"Umbridge's office."
By the time she made it to Umbridge's office, the Inquisitor Squad was defeated and Ron Weasley was leading Harry's misfits. His wand raised, like he'd need to fight through her as well. Like she was the enemy.
You are.
Only sometimes. But never when it mattered.
"Finally deciding to put your family first?" Ron sneered at her.
"Shut it, King Weasley, and tell me where my brother is."
They found Harry outside on the grounds. He and Hermione exited the forest; they looked like they had just gone through a war, and raised their arms in victory when they saw their fellow soldiers. Hyacinth was quick to ruin the reunion.
"What's going on?"
Harry's brow furrowed. "They have Sirius. The vision - did you not see?"
Her heart sunk to the ground. Not Sirius.
How do you know the vision is true?
"Harry," Hyacinth frowned. "We're not supposed to be seeing that anymore with Occlumency."
"I've been using it to spy on him," Harry said with wide, crazy eyes.
"Or he's been using it to spy on you."
"No," said Harry adamantly. "It was real, I know it was real. And we went to Umbridge's office to use the Floo. Kreature answered; Sirius isn't there. He's been taken and we have to save him." Harry must have noticed the hesitance in Hyacinth's eyes. "Trust me. I can feel it, Sirius is in danger."
