The sinuous speech of trees
Spells cursive on the air
With leaf hand and bough limb
Bending syllables
Into velocity and shadow play,
A living amber ink-light.
Each tree a fine calligraphist
Weaving a lacework of words
To pierce my heart with
Dendritic jade:
Delicate stab of the pine needle
Broad sweep of the maple.
Green run-on glorious
Sentence of willow fronds,
I am dazzled by your leafmanship
And struggle to decipher the stem
Of your arborescent alphabet.
My eyes read your necklace phrases
Of flutter charm and sway
My ears catch the root echo
Of your strong sap words:
Emerald susurrus
(Poetics in leaf).
