five years later

"i'm coming, calm down!" you exclaimed running down the stairs. "don't you look pretty" your mom said looking you up and down, "oh please you wouldn't let me wear the good dress" you muttered.

"cmon we're late for dinner! your dad is waiting in the car" she said walking out the door. "and i thought your mom took long enough to get ready" he said turning his phone off.

"sorry"

"the aomine's are gonna be at the party" your mom said clearing the silence. "oh" you said.

"are you going to be okay? i know it's sudden, we would've told you earlier but we didn't know you were coming until yesterday. it was so last minute you know?" she said placing a hand ontop of yours.

"he has a fiancé now" your dad said, "hey! don't make this harder than it already is!" your mom exclaimed slapping your dads thigh.

"i'll be fine" you said.

i think...

soon you arrived at the restaurant, "i'll tip you extra if you take good care of her. i don't want a scratch in sight" your dad said handing the valet the car keys.

"y/n!" daikis mom exclaimed quietly, getting out of her seat. "hey" you smiled giving her a hug. "daiki" you said siting down, "y/n" he replied back.

"this is kaori, daikis fiancé" she said with a low tone. "nice to meet you" you smiled at her before looking at his parents again. "so tell me, how's princeton treating you? rumour has it, that you're one of the top students at the school" she said taking a drink from her glass of wine.

"well in that case, the rumours are true. med school is kicking me in the ass though" you said and they laughed. "well daiki is over at community college as well as his fiancé" she said.

"oh, cool! what are you studying?" you asked the girl. "psychology" she said popping a piece of bread in her mouth. "what a shame. too bad she isn't like you" his mom said.

"aww, cut her some slack. phycology is actually a great course to take. if you don't mind me asking, what are you going to school for?" you asked. "social work" she said taking a drink from her glass of wine.

"that's cool! what made you want to become a social worker?" you asked spreading some butter on your bread. "well when i was younger, my parents were foster parents. so i've always wanted to help other kids you know?" she said.

"that's so sweet. i love that there's a meaning behind what you want to do" you said with a soft smile. "y/n what medical school program have you decided to apply to?" his mom asked.

"i applied to a few. yale, princeton, harvard" most ivy league schools. i also applied to some that were in canada too! i heard from my mom that they have some great programs, and she has connections" you mumbled the last part.

"that's great! im glad you're chasing your dreams. i always knew that you were going to become a doctor" she said with a smile. "well i kind of have to become a doctor considering the fact that i've been in like younger aged med schools for as long as i can remember" you laughed quietly.

"so, how long have you guys been engaged for?" you asked looking at the ring on her finger. "almost a year now" she said, "how long did you date for?"

"five years until he finally decided to propose" she said and you looked at daiki.

did he just remove the five year plan from his agenda? we made this dumb agreement before he left for college.

"that's amazing, congratulations!" you said as your phone went off abruptly. "sorry, i have to take this, excuse me." you said standing up and walking outside the restaurant.

"bro what the fuck! he's had a partner for almost six years now!" you exclaimed rubbing your arms for warmth. "you're kidding!" saki said with a gasp. "what happened to the five year plan?" she asked, "apparently non existent, now that he has a girlfriend." you scoffed.

"i cant believe i wasted five years waiting for him only to find out he has a fucking fiancé!" you said rubbing your head. "god she's so fucking perfect too it's hard to hate her. she's becoming a social worker for fucks sake! a social worker! that doesn't even compare to being a doctor" you said.

"don't you ever say that again before i fly down and smack your ass! those are two different incomparable jobs, y/n. you know that. you will both end up saving lives, don't bring yourself down just because he has someone. go back in there and show her that you're the better person, but don't be cocky about it" she said.

you sighed. "okay, okay. i'll go back inside. i'll let you know what happens. thank you, i love you" you said. "i love you too, now go back inside already" she said before hanging up.

"sorry, work call"

"what do you do for work?" his dad asked, "internship at a hospital" you replied. "six ounce sirloin, rare. garlic mash potatoes will do just fine" you said giving your order to the waitress.
