In an office at FEAST, there lay a messy desk. Papers all over, and on a table in the middle there were tubes and vials, beakers. It was a chemistry experiment. Y/n sat at the table, in his suit without the mask. He was scribbling on some papers, mumbling to himself. The spider was on the table, in the jar. Y/n ripped the papers up. "No, it's wrong. I have-" It was obvious he hasn't slept. He put his freshly scarred hands on the ring he wore. He turned it on his finger, before running his hands through his hair. "I need-" Y/n sighed. "I need a biochemist. If only Peter were here, or Luke. They were great at chemistry." Y/n sighed.
There was a knock at the door as Quentin walked in. "What?" Y/n asked, not doing well to hide the irritation he felt. "How's it going?" Quentin asked. "It's not. Did you find Doppelganger?" "No, but I know he's been active. We found Mr. Negative's body. Evidence suggests Doppel killed him. I know what he's doing. He did it on my world. He takes out the power grid, cuts the city off from the world. Then he goes after the high value targets, the biggest threats to his operation. And in the meantime, the city is destroying itself. And then, he levels the city. Destroys it." Quentin explained, remembering what happened. "How did he destroy your world?" Y/n asked.
Quentin moved from leaning against the wall to the chair in front of Y/n. "He went to Mauna Loa, a volcano, and he overheat the earth's core, and made it explode." "I'm sorry." Y/n said. "I understand what you're trying to do with Gwen, but I can't stop him on my own. He almost killed me last time, and we both know Cindy won't stand a chance. She's still a beginner. I need your help." "I know, I just. I'm just tired. I'll be there, but I have to save Gwen, too. Otherwise my world is lost." Y/n said, Quentin noting how Y/n said Gwen is his world. "Make sure you spend time together. There's always a chance it won't work. So make sure you make the most of this time."
Y/n took that to heart. So he took Gwen, who was feeling better, to the roof. The two walked up to the small garden. "I'm glad you're feeling better." Y/n said, "You sure you feel okay?" "I'm okay." Gwen replied, leaning on Y/n not because she needed it, but he did. The two sat at the table up there. Despite everything going on, it was a sunny day and they needed the sun. Y/n pulled a deck of cards from his pocket "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?"
An hour later they were still on the roof, except it was now night time. The two lay on a web Y/n spun next to each other, watching the sky. Gwen was buried in Y/n's arms, though Y/n wasn't looking at the stars. Instead, he shut his eyes, savoring the time with the love of his life. "Can I be honest about something?" Y/n asked. "Of course." "I really needed a hug from you." Y/n said, both he and Gwen laughing. "Me, too." She said, "Can we talk about what happens? If we stop Doppelganger, whether or not I die-" "You won't die." Y/n said.
Gwen sighed. "If, a big if. But we need to have a plan. Not everybody is making out of this alive." Gwen said, Y/n only nodding. "I'll figure it out. I'm just spread really thin right now, trying to do everything. I'm trying to help you, and Quentin needs my help..." Y/n sighed, "All I know is that the second we get out of this, I'm marrying you. And we'll leave, go far, far away." Y/n said. "We'll go, buy a house somewhere, live on the beach. I don't know. I just know I want to spend the rest of my life with you, and we'll figure the rest out on the way."
Gwen laid back into Y/n. "Okay." She muttered. "I love you so much. You know I'll always be there to save you." "I know." Gwen replied, pressing her lips to his. Y/n melted into the kiss. He leaned his forehead against hers, catching his breath. She turned back up to the sky, "That's the big dipper." Gwen pointed to the stars. "Really?" Y/n asked. "No." Gwen smiled, making Y/n laugh. They stayed there late into the night, falling asleep in each other's arms.
In the meantime, Doppelganger was sitting on a crate, looking at a small picture of his Gwen. She was different. She had long hair instead of the short hair she wore on this earth, and wore a black headband. She wore a tan jacket, and a black shirt. She smiled from behind the bangs that fell over her forehead. The picture itself was dirty and scratched. Worn from the years of use. Doppelganger looked at it, regretting not saving her. Images of the way she died flashed in his mind. How she hit the ground, the gears of the clocktower falling around her. The way that even though she hit the ground, the web suspended her in the air. And how he held her in his arms. And how it was his fault he couldn't save her.
