WEDNESDAY

SEPTEMBER 1ST

Walking down the stairs I run my hand across the rough texture of the banister, only it feels sticky, bringing my hand to my face I see it covered in red, blood. Hearing a weak gasp I forced my head up to see my sister laying at the bottom on the staircase, obvious stab wounds littered her torso. I abruptly hear a scream ring out throughout the house, looking around for the person making the noise before realizing it's coming from me.

I suddenly jolt awake, a thin layer of sweat covers my entire body making my pink sweatpants and black Nirvana shirt stick to me like another layer of skin. Ripping my headphones from my ears I take in my surroundings, attempting to catch my breath and calm my racing heart. I notice the man on the aisle still fast asleep, the lights in the plane still dim meaning we still have a bit to go before we land in London.

Just as I was about to signal the flight attendants for a glass of water the lights rose filling the main cabin with a light that reminded me of the sun rising early in the mornings. I smile at the peaceful memory that replaces the nightmare that had woken me up, seemingly just in time for breakfast.

The flight attendants came around delivering coffee, yogurt and granola, a delicious biscotti that I shamelessly asked for another and devoured. Over all the 10 hour plane ride could have been worse.

According to the fancy screen on the back of the headrest across from me the plane is due to touch down within the next 20 minutes, quickly cleaning the mess I had created in front of me I quickly slip off my seatbelt, tapping the now awake and slightly grumpy looking man blocking my way. "Excuse me, I have to use the restroom." He scoffs and begrudgingly stands up. Ok then asshole.

Doing my business then washing my hands I stare into the reflection looking back at me. Sighing I apply some light mascara onto my blonde lashes and dust on a bit of blush to bring back some of the color my recent nap had drained from me. Pulling out the hair tie from my messy bun I finger brush through my hair before tying it back into a decent half up half down.

Hearing the pilot signal for all passengers to put on their seatbelts I quickly make my way back to my seat and smile politely at my grumpy row mate. Buckling back up I raise the window shutter to look at my new home, my jaw dropping. I gaze out to see the London skyline and all of the homes surrounding it.

Hearing the airplane drop its wheels I feel my anxiety spike and grip onto the arm rests until my fingertips turn white, staring out the window I watch as we drop closer and closer to the ground until finally the wheels touch the rain colored air track. Letting out the breath I hadn't realized I was holding I relaxed into the seat, allowing myself to smile. I made it.

After a long process of deboarding the plane to then waiting an hour in line for customs only to be told that since I'm a dual citizen, still not used to that, I didn't even have to wait in that specific line I finally made it to the baggage claim area.
