I walked closer to the long table, the magnificent Sultana of the palace is sitting in the elegant chair in the middle of the room.I picked up the acrylic paints and laid them on the table, the Sultana just staring at me as she held the glass of wine.
I approached the right corner, took two large size canvases and lifted them closer to where the table was.
"What are we going to do now Mr. Ferderico?". She asked me. I looked at her intently and spoke.
"No matter what we do in four days or what we study, no matter how you turn the world upside down you don't need me here to learn more art My Sultana. Don't get me wrong, I feel useless because you're already good at making art ". I stated, I arranged the canvases and mixed colors into the color palette.
"Why did Habriel even send you here?". She asked me all of a sudden. I stood up straight and looked at her.
"You can send me back to him if you don't want me to be your mentor, but I'm telling the truth, you really don't need me here. What is my role here in your palace if the person I'm going to teach is even better than me?". I asked.
I was just wondering, if this Sultana is really good at creating artworks why did she ask for Habriel's favor just to ask for an art mentor? Really? How much interest does Habriel have in this contract.
I wonder what they might have talked about.
"Eventually you will know, Mr. Ferderico. The answer to what you want to know is not in the first, the answers are always in the latter". She said.
"What do you mean?". I asked confused.
"You said I'm good at art, you've proven it because of my art pad and the artwork I made yesterday, but you haven't really seen what's wrong with what I'm doing Mr. Ferderico". She said.
I lowered the palette and picked up the glass and drank a small amount of wine.
"Yes, I've proven that because of your skills, but I'm still confused as to what my role is and why I'm here". I replied.
"Are you sure you don't know the reason why you're here Mr. Ferderico?". She asked me, I feel that she knows what I'm up to but part of me tells me not to think negatively, because I will definitely lose in the end if I think wrong.
"I know, I'm here to hopefully teach you and guide you in whatever you want to learn but things don't seem to be happening that I expected to happen". I answered her.
Yes, I'm right, I didn't expect my mission to be like this, I thought it would be easy because I'm good at every job I do but I didn't expect it to be this difficult.
The culture they have is a huge barrier for my task, the hijab, their beliefs and the laws that restrict all my thoughts.
It’s scary to move and break their laws because no matter how small or big your sin is I’m sure the punishment can be heavy.
“What do you expect?”. She asked me again, why do her questions seem so hard to answer, but when you think about it the question is so easy.
"You, who don't know much about art yet, I thought you didn't know art so Mr. Habriel sent me here but I guess I am wrong". I replied. The Sultana stood up and approached me.
"Everything I do, I don't do for superficial reasons only Mr. Ferderico.". She whispered to me, we are only 2 feet away from each other and I feel like I am suffocating from the smell that she has.
The Sultana smells good, her freshness is attractive but with her words and questions it seems like I just want to turn around and say goodbye.
"From what I said, your presence in my constituency is not only a superficial reason I have, in fact, you are here to help me mentally and emotionally. Now, I just want you to know what my problem is, maybe when you find out before the expiration of the days stipulated in the contract, everything can be changed ”. The Sultana said at length.
