When she unboarded the Hogwarts express, she quickly made her way to the Ministry of Magic. She had been waiting and dreaming for this day to happen, and she finally had her chance. She strode in casually and made her way to her work space. She took a coffee mug and transfigured it into a makeshift box. Inside she stored all of her possessions. As she was doing this, many workers stoped and were staring at her. There was a hushed whisper that went around like wild fire that Hermione couldn't ignore. Once she was finished it seemed that everyone in the Department of International Magical Cooperation had stopped and were watching her. She strutted past them with her head held high, she was proud that she was doing this.
Before she reached the elevator to take her to the main floor she turned around to face them all. "I bid thee all farewell. It has been an excruciating pain and I am happy to leave you all behind." With a smile on her face, and the shocked expressions around her, she turned on her heel and proceeded on her way home.
When she reached the house, it was empty. She found a note on the counter;
Me and Cormac went out for lunch, see you later
-Gin"Well, this is perfect. One more day of not breaking the news to her." She said aloud. She went to her bedroom and began to decipher what to pack. She didn't want to be overpacked or underpacked, or look tacky. She went through her clothes, packing sweaters and jeans. She packed her few good robes she had left and a pair of flats, heels, and converse. She packed a few dresses, just in case of a special occasion. She knew she would be more than likely spending her time in the dungeons, and knew how terribly cold it got down there, so she packed a few extra long sleeve shirts.
Once she finished packing her clothes into her trunk, she turned to her possessions. She took a picture of her and Ginny, her and Harry and Ron and a picture of her parents, her many books, and her mp3 player. She wanted to take it because she enjoyed listening to music, it calmed her.
She also packed some ingredients she thought she should pack just in case for Potions and some notebooks. Parchment and ink, a few quills and her makeup kit were the few last things to make it into her trunk. When she closed it she looked at the time, it was nearly ten o'clock and Ginny hadn't returned yet. She decided to get some rest, she had, had a busy day. She minimized her trunk to fit in her beaded bag and went to sleep, letting sleep consume her.
When she woke up the next morning, she was greeted by Ginny with a warm cup of tea. "So, how did it go?" She asked.
"What?" Hermione asked, still groggy from sleep.
"Hogwarts!? How was it?" She asked with a smile.
"Oh, it was terrific. I saw Professor McGonagall and we chatted."
"And?"
"I ran into Filch, he thought I was breaking into the school to vandalize it." She said with a snicker. Ginny broke out laughing.
"You would actually think the bloke would have left the school by now, he is such a creep!"
"I know." She said with a grin.
"So, did you run into anybody else?" She questioned.
Hermione wanted to shy away from that question. She still hadn't told Ginny about her and Snape's encounter, let alone chat. "Well, I did run into Professor Snape." She said shyly. Ginny dropped her jaw.
"The greasy git of the dungeons!? The bat of living hell!? The..."
"Ginny, that's enough! Yes him." She said with a giggle.
"No, I'm serious 'Mione. What did he say?"
Hermione rolled her eyes. "What did he not say." She said with a glare. She knew this response was satisfactory and changed the conversation. "So, how was lunch yesterday?" Ginny quickly turned a shade of hot pink.
"I'm giving no details, but let's just say...It was magical."
"Oh Gin, you didn't!?" Hermione half screamed half questioned her.
"I'm serious, I think he is the one. He just makes me feel...different inside." Ginny seemed dazed and Hermione had to snap her back to reality.
"I'm glad, he seemed like a nice guy...when he tried to date me!" She added. Ginny threw a pillow at her, and led into a morning pillow fight. Once they were through giggling and laughing in fits, they laid on the bed, surrounded by feathers.
"Mione, when are you ever going to find Mr. Right?" She asked sincerely. Hermione bit her lip. She knew she might never find him, she expected too much from one person, and all the men she had tried to date, expected so much of her to do for them. Was that what all guys were like? Because sure enough the ones she had been with were all like that in a way.
"I'm not sure I will ever find him." She said. "I'll just have to wait and see, let nature take its course, but first off and more importantly, I want to do what I want to do with my life. I don't want to be a controlled person, a slave."
"But not all guys are like that though." Ginny argued back. Hermione wanted to believe it. Ginny may have been happy with Cormac, but there will come a time when the trance will be lifted and true colors will be shown.
"I wish I could agree." She said simply. Ginny just pouted her bottom lip, but said nothing. Hermione sipped her now cold tea. "I think it's high time we get out of our pj's and put some real clothes on and go shopping!" Ginny eyes lit up. She jumped out of bed and ran to her room so fast Hermione couldn't help but laugh.
She slowly retreated from her bed and went to her drawer. She grabbed out a pair of blue Jean capris and a mahogany v-neck and headed straight for the shower. She had wanted to retrieve the many feathers from her hair and knew a shower would help.
When she was finished, she dried her hair using a drying charm and met Ginny at the front door. Together they walked shoulder to shoulder to Madame Malkins to get fitted for some new robes. Hermione was trying to decipher when to tell Ginny about her dropping her job at the Ministry and accepting one at Hogwarts. She knew she had to do it soon, surely she would understand. Right?
