"Don't die wondering . . ."
***
A breeze rushed past me as I inhaled sharply, turning around my heels, somehow expecting someone, anyone behind me, yet I met nothing but air.
Was I getting paranoid again?
I increased my speed, walking around with no destination in mind.
For some reason, I couldn't shake off the feeling of being followed by something, but every time I looked behind me, there was nothing but my own shadow.
I let myself slow down for a mere second, another warm breeze passing by my cheek, almost as if someone was blowing inside my ear.
My shoulders tensed as I quickly turned a corner, being met by the glass door that led to the outside playground on the deck.
I threw a glance over my shoulder, seeing nobody, so I rushed forwards, pushing the glass doors open and stepping outside before closing the doors behind me.
Leaning against the glass door with my back, I heaved out a deep sigh that had been stuck mid-way in my throat as I relaxed my shoulders.
Creek.
My eyes shot open as I scanned the playground, suddenly noticing a hunched over the figure in the distance sitting on the swing that rocked in slow motion.
The kid on the swing didn't seem to have noticed my presence as I bit my lower lip, weighing my options on whether or not to approach.
Before I could have decided, I saw the figure pushing their leg from the ground, making the swing move.
I took a step forwards, still facing the back of the kid.
With the step, the kid started swinging faster and faster, higher and higher, almost as if he wanted to touch the sky.
I stood only a mere metre behind the kid when he suddenly leapt forwards; out of the swing.
I felt my blood run cold as my legs surged forwards, wanting to catch him.
The metal swing hit the side of my stomach like a knife stabbing into me as I doubled a little over but determined not to give up. Never again.
My hands got stretched out, clinging to the hope to catch the kid.
It was as if the world turned into slow motion, my heart thumping inside my ears as my body couldn't react fast enough.
My hand brushed his waist as I tried to find a grip on his body, my hand going straight through him before I realized what was wrong, but I was already too late by then.
Before I could help myself for the fall, I already fell to the harsh tilled ground of the ship, the ground embracing my impact.
The air out of my lungs got pushed out as I gasped, the pain blooming like wildflowers through my body.
A few seconds passed in silence, in which I had my eyes clutched closed tightly, the pain continuing to spread as I was unable to find the energy to push myself up.
Judging by the silence, I could probably predict that he had left, the little ghost boy.
"Gege?" A whisper of a voice spoke as, in an instant, my eyes shot open as a soft winch left my mouth, my eyes looking up into a pair of delicate hues of blue eyes.
"Ah, so you didn't leave me behind for death?" I muttered under my breath, my eyelashes flickering as I fought the tiredness and numbing pain washing over me in waves.
