"Warming my hands on the bridges I've burnt . . ."***
I pulled the blanket tightly around me, wrapping myself in its warmth as a shiver ran down my spine.
The evens of the night kept replaying themselves inside my mind, the shadows of people running around, the screams that followed the gunshot, and everywhere blood that splattered to every corner.
My body was trembling as a cold breeze caressed my cheek.
After the gunshot, the people descended into madness, most of them having to be forced back from the crime scene by guards, and in the end, we were all put into our room, not allowed out until they would get checked the whole crime scene.
I stood up, wincing at the pain shooting through my leg as I walked from one side of the room to the other.
So much has happened in a span of a few hours.
I bit my lower lip, trying to recount all events.
In one night, two people already have passed.
A shaky breath left my lips as I walked towards the window, throwing it open to have a fresh breeze meet me in the face.
I let my eyes wander as I caught the sight of the full bright moon, holding my head oblique; it almost seemed like the moon was emitting a blue shade.
I stepped backwards, and a firefly settled down onto the window side, radiating its light, the firefly sat there, and a tiny smile made a place on my face.
The sorrow inside my heart was hollow as I remember the screams of agony from Xuan Lu's husband to lose someone you had committed your whole life with; I couldn't imagine his loss.
Skrr skrr.
I turned around, listening quietly as the sound repeated itself as if something or someone was scraping with its nails against my door.
Ignoring the sound, I put the window on a small ajar, the sound of scratches continuing, only now it seemed more urgent.
Not sure what to do, I sat down on my bed again, holding the blanket tightly, until my knuckles turned white.
I had tried to sleep, but anxiety refused me that pleasure, and I didn't have my phone, so I couldn't even contact anyone; I had tried calling Lily and even Wang Jie, but neither picked up.
My eyes wandered to the clock, every second that ticked by sounding through the room, making my anxiety worse than it already was, and I regretted not having brought my medication with me.
1 A.M.
I didn't expect Wang Jie to pick up, but Lily was most of the time still awake.
I tried to shake away the thought, the sound of the scratching still echoing throughout the room.
After enduring a few more minutes, I grabbed my suitcase from under my bed, opening it to take the lucky chain given by Lily.
Holding it in my hand, I let the sharp sides of each petal prick against my hand.
My mind felt drowsy, and for a mere second, the sound of the scratching stopped as my eyes fluttered close before the sound returned, intenser and worse than before.
Louder, more urgent, as if someone or something was calling for my help.
I hesitated, slowly getting up to my feet, the flower chain dropping from my hand, falling onto the bed as I walked to the door.
