"I am a riddle . . ."
***
My eyes widened as I took in all the colourful lights in the room.
No matter how many times I would get to these kinds of rich gala events, the beauty and grace of the decor they created will always continue to stun me.
When I was younger, going to these parties, I would often be bored standing around my mother while my eyes wandered off to the decor, the breathtaking lights and themes.
The decors were one of the few reasons I would not be bored out of my mind; when I was younger, and Wang Jie still joined me in some fun, we would make stories up about how it was fairies creating the beautiful settings.
Sadly, at some point, Wang Jie grew out of our imaginary stories, all the while, I remained a firm believer of magic.
I sighed, shaking away the recollections of the past as I mingled into the crowd with my boring black suit.
My eyes scanned the room, over all the heads of the people, trying to find that idiot, but he was nowhere to get seen.
Why did I even come in the first place?
"Little lion cub~" I turned around in a flash of a second, the heel of my feet turning as I fell forwards, right into the arms of a shadowy figure.
"You really have a thing about falling into my arms, don't you. So why don't you make it your stay?" I groaned, glancing up to look right into Zhan's eyes, pushing him against the chest; I gave myself some leverage to get away from his warmth.
"Stop teasing me," I hissed at him, turning around when he got a hold of my wrist, turning my body right into his arms again.
"You promised me this dance, little lion cub; you can't back away from your promise," he whispered, his voice closer to my ear than I had seen him move, the warmth of his breath against my ear shell making me shudder.
"I- I can't dance!" I sputtered as the music switched to a slower rhythm, and I saw the people around us taking a partner, and Zhan and I stood in the centre of the room as a middle point.
I tried to wriggle away from his hold, but Zhan refused to let me go this time, and the more I moved, the closer he pulled me, to the point our noses were only a breath apart.
"Just follow my movements, bunny. You'll be fine." Zhan didn't give me a chance to react as he intertwined our fingers, leading the dance as I slowly moved with stiff movement mimicking his and somehow, I hadn't bumped or stepped on anyone's feet.
"Have you ever heard of the tale that when two people kiss under the watch of a full moon, the love between the couple would never die out, not through years, decades, centuries or even lifetimes? The lovers who kiss under the moon will find each other, no matter the lifetime? Forever bound," Zhan's voice was warm like honey pouring into my ear as he spoke, his warm hand leading my body.
My head felt filled with pieces of cotton as I tried to concentrate on my steps.
We moved on to the music; my eyes maintained eye contact with his, unable to look away, and Zhan's eyes were deep like the ocean, and it was like his eyes held the key to the secrets of the world, no longer teasing.
"That's romantic," I muttered under my breath as Zhan gave me a lopsided smile that seemed to speak of stories I could not comprehend.
"There are a handful of things in this world beyond human knowledge, but I believe that time will tell us the secrets hidden beneath layers of lonely centuries," I raised an eyebrow, my mouth opening, but no words came out as I closed it again.
