I don't know why Uzui is acting so giddy and excited, even for him it doesn't seem natural. I zone out while walking to the kitchen, I woke up a little later than usual because Uzui gave me the week off for my birthday. Though he did say I would have to work 7 times harder, for every day of training I missed.
I snap out of my trance when I hear the clanging of dishes and utensils. I turn the corner to see my trainer Uzui Tengen crouched searching through a kitchen cabinet. I walk closer to him and quirk an eyebrow until he notices my presence. He looks up at me with a smile and says,
"Well good morning birthday girl!" He stands and pats my head,
"um, Uzui...Today Is February 23rd rd, my birthday is tomorrow" I explain with an awkward smile.
(there will be time skips so I'll update that when it changes)
"I knew that!" he lies, " who do you think you are correcting your superior?" He pouts.
"Okay...what are you doing in the kitchen anyway?" I question him with a confused tone.
"I- that is no way to speak to your trainer young lady!" he points at me with a fake glare," and it's none of your business! can't a man bake without interruptions?" he sighs.
"well yeah...but," I sniff the air, "is that...Mitarashi Dango?!" I yell reaching for the plate Uzui hid behind his back. He swats away my hands before admitting defeat and placing the treat on the table. I stare at the food in awe and turn my head to Uzui.
"Are these for me??" I ask with a hopeful yet sarcastic tone,
"they were for birthday but now you've ruined the surprise" the flamboyant man pouts, I hear a door slide open and shut followed by chatter. I run towards to noise and see Makio, Hina and Suma all with miscellaneous bags in their hands I run towards them with a smile. Makio is the first to recognize my presence and rushes forward to greet me with a hug.
"How's the early birthday girl?" She smiles, spinning me around in the process. Suma grabs her by the arm,
"Stop! you're going to hurt her Makio!" Suma whines, Makio puts me down and they begin to argue.
"oh don't be an idiot! She's fine see?!" Makio deflects pointing to me, I turn my head towards Suma worried about what her response might be, she notices this, only to make things worse.
"Stop yelling on her birthday, we're supposed to be celebrating!" Suma continues.
"Her birthday's tomorrow! If you weren't dumb you'd already know that!" Makio corrects. they argue like this for a while, like young teenagers in a coming-of-age movie. But not long after, I interject.
"Makio! I-it's okay really!" I smile, "and Suma I'm not going to get hurt I promise! I can take care of myself, I'm just happy you all are doing this for me. Truly I'm so grateful," I bow slightly and their arguing comes to a halt.
"I haven't had a birthday this nice since...ever really!..." My smile falters slightly but soon grows again when I feel the familiar warmth of Makio's embrace.
"Oh. My. god, Tengen! I can see why you chose her to be your tsuguko, she's so cute!" Makio exclaims holding me tighter, "she's like a mini-me!" She squeals. I return the hug as my eyes begin to fill with tears. Suma wraps one arm around me and one around Makio, joining the group hug.
"Oh my god I'm gonna cry!" she exclaims in an exaggerated tone, though she's already bawling her eyes out as Hinatsuru joins with a soft almost sympathetic smile, through all of this Uzui is taking it all in. He looks at his wives with pure admiration before feeling someone pulling on his yukata. He looks down to see me with tears streaming down my face attempting to pull him into the hug. His confused face turns into a smiling one, sometimes he forgets his Tsuguko is almost only 10 years old, I act mature for my age though.
