Tadhg an Fhíona's mother was Lady Mary Burke, younger sister of Ulick Burke, 3rd Earl of Clanricarde. Ulick's son, Richard, was the fourth Earl of Clanricarde, and paid for King Tadhg an Fhíona's son, Brian Ruadh Ó Ruairc, to attend Oxford University.

Lord Ulick and Lady Mary were the children of Richard Sassanach de Burgh, 2nd Earl of Clanricarde, and his wife Princess Mairghéad Ní Bhriain, daughter of Murchadh Ó Briain, last King of Thomond, 1st Earl of Thomond, and 1st Baron Inchiquin (1490-1551). King Domnall Ua Briain was the son of Princess Mór Ní Chonchobair daughter of High King Tairrdelbach Ua Conchobair of Ireland. Mór was the only full-sister of High King Ruaidrí Ua Conchobair of Ireland, King of Ireland, King of Connacht, Lord of Dublin.

Domnall Mór's wife, who mothered his children, was Princess Órlaith of Leinster daughter of King Diarmait Mac Murchadha, also known as Dermot MacMurrough. He was mentioned in previous chapters.

Tadhg an Fhíona Ó Ruairc's father was Brian na Múrtha Ó Ruairc, King of Bréifne, son of King Brian ballach mór and his wife Princess Gráinne Ní Dhomhnaill of Tirconnell daughter of Maghnus Ó Domhnaill, King of Tyrconnell (died 1563) and his wife Judith O'Neill daughter of King Conn Mór Ó Néill of Tyrone, who also has previously been mentioned. Brian ballach mór's mother was another Princess Mairghéad Ní Bhriain daughter of the aforementioned Toirdhealbhach Donn Ó Briain, King of Thomond.

Brian Ruadh Ó Ruairc was the son of Máire O'Donnell daughter of Sir Aodh Ó Domhnaill, King of Tyrconnell, and his second wife, Fionnuala MacDonnell daughter of Séamus Mac Dòmhnuill, 6th of Dunnyveg, and his wife Lady Agnes Campbell daughter of Colin Campbell, 3rd Earl of Argyll (also previously mentioned), and his wife Lady Jean Gordon daughter of Alexander Gordon, 3rd Earl of Huntly (maternal grandson of James I, King of Scots), and his wife Lady Jean Stewart daughter of John Stewart, 1st Earl of Atholl, and his wife Lady Eleanor Sinclair, daughter of William Sinclair, last Jarl of Orkney, 1st Earl of Caithness (1410-1480). King Aodh Ó Domhnaill was the brother of the aforementioned Princess Gráinne Ní Dhomhnaill.

Tadhg's wife and Pádraig's mother was Catherine Roche daughter of Commander Antonie Roche son of Maurice Roche, 8th Viscount Roche, son of David, 7th Viscount, and his wife Joan Barry daughter of David de Barry, 5th Viscount Buttevant (died 1617) son of Ellen MacCarthy daughter of Cormac na Haoine MacCarthy Reagh, 13th Prince of Carbery, and his wife Julia MacCarthy daughter of Cormac Óg Mac Carthaigh, 10th Lord of Muskerry (1447-1537).
