My mother told me to not be a quitter, my daddy said that he already saw me as one.
"Motherfucker-" I muttered under my breath as I kicked the covers off of me before stumbling and attempting but failing to make my way down the stairs as quietly as I could. Though with each step came the unforgivable sound of the floorboards creaking underneath me. It was still dark out and I assumed everyone was asleep by now. Though, it wasn't until I heard the loud scream escaping the lips of a young woman outside. I was halfway down the stairs, the front door visible to me. And although I didn't see anything, I definitely heard it all. It's as if I was reliving the moment I was first brought here. It was only done by someone out in their perspective and not mine.
Though out of curiosity, I walked down peered into the kitchen. There stood Luda, in the middle of getting some kind of broth ready. Honestly the thought of eating made me realize how hungry I was at the moment. Though it didn't matter. Luda had drugged me. She probably wouldn't expect me to be awake so soon. Altough, I was curious to see why she did what she did. Even the sound of the Chainsaw whirling outside didn't change my mind.Chainsaw.
My eyes flickered to the front door, the spot that my light feet carried me to. Doing my best not to make too many loud movements, I slowly allowed my hand to turn the knob on the door. My face staying glued to the wall so I could peek out. Though, just as quickly as I was able to process what was happening, the door flung open. This caused me to fall back onto the floor. His darkened eyes meeting mine for a second before the girl thrashing over his shoulder snapped something out of him. Almost in realization that he had business to take care, I just currently wasn't the most pressing issue. Though the look he gave me sort of told me to stay put and not to make any noise. I didn't need him to speak or have a game of charades to tell me so much. With that though, he disappeared into the same basement door with the girl briefly seeing me. Though, Thomas made sure to slam the door shut before she could call out to me or make my presence known.
And with that short time, I realized I was too locked in a shock state that I couldn't process everything. Slowly I crawled back to the door and peaked again. Lightly I gulped at the scene displayed out on the porch. It wasn't something new to me but it wasn't something I had expected to say the least."What are you doing here?"
A familiar voice spoke behind me, causing me to freeze and slam the door shut. I turned, pushing myself against the wall as I looked into her angry brown eyes. Although I managed to stay quiet this whole time, Luda still found a way to know I was here.
"I woke up and-" I paused, looking at the basement door behind her. "I heard the Chainsaw so I came down to see what was happening." I managed to lie on that bit of my short excuse before getting a light unconvinced nod from her.
"You get on back to bed." She ordered, sounding sweeter than before as she helped me off the floor. Though I didn't say anything about what Thomas did to that guy laying out on the porch, I knew it'd be a discussion for later. Or hopefully never. Slowly, I made my way back up the stairs, listening to Luda rather than starting an argument. Something told me I shouldn't bother with arguments in this home. The thought of getting into one made me realize just how much of a choke hold they have on me and mainly my life.
One slip up and that could be me sliced in half.
Although sleep didn't come to me the way it had been forced at first, I eventually did end up sleeping through the morning. It wasn't until Lude came into my room and gently shook me awake. Saying that I needed to eat something and eventually wake up for the day. Even then, it was strange of me to sleep in. I was always up by five every morning. I had things to do and acted like I had the whole world to see. This time? I didn't. I had the same run down kitchen and wooden home to explore. Somehow in my mind, my brain knew this fact and didn't bother waking me. Though as I dressed myself in a pair of shorts and loose band t-shirt that Luda gave me, I questioned everything from last night. Granted, any normal person would possibly run the moment they saw something like that...
But I'm not enough of a hypocrite to judge them or even get scared. It wasn't okay. I can process that much from the remaining bit of my sanity. However, it doesn't mean I was going to lose it over seeing a dead body that was sliced in half. Not when I was the one slicing at some point."Luda? What exactly does Thomas do downstairs?" I asked curiously, not too sure if I was even pushing past a line I wasn't supposed to cross. For a moment, I thought I did when her stare hardened on me for a moment before softening again.
"You saw that boy outside didn't you?" She asked, already knowing what I was going to say. When I nodded, she only gave me a curious glance before speaking. "You know, when Tommy saw you..he knew there was something familiar about you." She muttered, her eyes going toward the door of the bedroom before leading me out towards the kitchen.
"Familiar?" I question, confused now. The real reason why I'm allowed to even be alive was finally going to be revealed. Who knew it'd come so soon?
"It wasn't until a little while after that we finally realized what it was.." She paused, going to the fridge to grab some produce to prepare for tonight's dinner. "Your name ain't Elaine..now is it?" She asked.
She knows-
Although I felt my throat dry up and swell at the thought of getting caught, I also felt my face just go cold out of fear. "No ma'am" I admitted, my voice barely above a whisper.
"Now listen, we can't turn you into the authorities hun so I'm going to ask you for a favor or two...if you do them you can stay around here for however long you want." It was bargain I honestly couldn't refuse for shit at the moment. I felt a bit trapped with this decision. I didn't have one. I knew what would happen if I refused to take her offer. I didn't need to be sliced into ribbons either. It wasn't an option at this point. My immediate nod was out of instinct. "Alright then.." She paused and looked around to make sure, I assume, no one was eavesdropping. "Thomas..my boy." She pouted at this and kept her sights on the basement door.
"What about him?" I asked, confused at this point. Though if it involved Thomas, I felt that there was a reason to be afraid now.
"His face" She simply replied, going back nonchalantly to cutting up the veggies laid out. "He has this rare skin disease...out of the frustration by the way he looked he scarred his face real bad and he isn't so happy about it still." She frowned at this before continuing, "listen..I know why the police is after you. I heard what you did to that-" She paused once more to make sure she got her story straight on me "ex boyfriend, was it? And then that illegal business you had going on top of it all? Even Hoyt was impressed for a moment after I explained it to him." She shook her head and lightly scoffed. All of this taking me a very long moment to process. So she knew. She knew everything and kept me here on purpose to use me for God knows what. "I always told Tommy that he's just fine the way he is now...but he doest listen. Now this is where things get a bit harder to understand." Stopping, she turned to look at me and sighed. "I want you to do whatever you can to help him" She finally revealed. All in all, making me feel thoughtful about the situation. Although I hadn't seen his face, I don't 'fix' people. I only give them things that they want to modify and add onto themselves.
"Ma'am, I did illegal body modifications. I get that this is considered a body mod for you but not to me- I mean it's practically scar removal. I don't have experience in that area or the proper equipment." Althought I felt like I had rambled through the excuse, Luda only stared. Honestly seeming like she hadn't considered all of that to begin with. At the end, she only shrugged.
"Say what you want darlin'..this is considered body modification to me. I don't want you touching my boy that way but it's what he wants." She practically pleaded now. She had high expectations about my abilities at this point. It was more than concerning at this point. I had gotten to that relevation that maybe there is a God and he put me here to heal someone from emotional trauma. But this isn't a disney movie or a pureflix film. This was reality where this poor guy had high expections on his appearance. Which in the end was just complete bullshit.
