Chapter 6

Standing up, I had only to take a single step before I was eye level with the book. I reached up, about to lift it off the shelf, when I felt the sensation of eyes upon my back. Yet, it did not feel harsh and prickly like the usual looks of disgust (normally from the "popular" girls group) that I was accustomed to, but rather gentle and soft, as though it was accompanied with a kind smile instead of a sneer.

Not wishing to startle the owner of the eyes, I did not whip around, but instead I tried to slowly sneak a glance under my lifted arm.

The feeling of watching eyes vanished.

I lifted my head only to see no one returning my gaze.
Half a dozen people had their necks bent as they focused on doing school work, one or two people were taking this valuable study time to have a nap, and, of course, the usual gaggle of girls were still giggling. But as I swept my eyes over this scene, I found no obvious source of the stare I had felt.

Maybe I imagined it?, I asked myself, but I felt in my heart that I hadn't.

I shook my head. Even so, there's nothing to be done now.

Turning my attention back to the shelf, I finished taking off The Lightning Thief and took a step back, retreating back to my seat.

As I sat, I felt the sensation of the kind eyes once more. But, glancing up, they disappeared as quickly as I felt them.
Oh well, I suppose they will reveal themselves when the time is right. Right?

Dismissing this for the time being, I looked back down and, grasping pages of the book, I opened it, my breath bated as I waited to see if my guess was correct.

And there, amongst the creamy pages filled with typed words, was another crisp, white card.

My fingers almost trembling, though for reasons unknown, I turned it over.

Hint 3: The barrier that divides Rusty and other kitty pets from Firestar and other clan cats.
Reason #3: Your smile when you are reading a good book

Author's Note:
Hey there! Thanks for reading my story, it means a lot to me ^_^.

Sorry for the short chapter this update, I've been really busy lately and also been unwell these last few days, so I figured that a short chapter was better than no update, and to be honest I wasn't really sure how to make this any longer.

Anyhow, my apologies, I hope everyone is having a blessed week!
