As he took a sip from his coffee, Laurent heard a dramatic sigh and peered over the rim of his cup to the open door. He'd been enjoying the early morning breeze on the terrace and waiting for this moment.
"Morning baby," he said, putting his coffee aside.
"Mmmm..." was the only answer he got as Larry shuffled toward him.
Larry planted himself sideways on the lounger between Laurent's thighs and then flopped over, curling up on his side against Laurent's chest. As Laurent pushed Larry's hair from his forehead, Larry tilted his head back, squinting at Laurent in expectation of his good morning kiss. Laurent couldn't help but laugh to himself as their lips touched.
"What?" Larry grumbled, and Laurent struggled not to laugh even harder which was damn near impossible.
Laurent knew exactly what was coming. Larry was like a grumpy, sleepy kitten in the mornings, especially when he was stressed out. But under the right circumstances or with the right motivation, that could change in the blink of an eye.
"I got you breakfast," Laurent answered.
With a sleepy grin, Larry said, "I knew I liked you for a reason."
Rolling his eyes, Laurent pressed a kiss to Larry's forehead. "There's fruit, yogurt, and granola. And I got an assortment of pastries from that bakery you love, plus there's an extra box of cheese Danish."
Larry popped up, accidentally elbowing Laurent in the ribs in the process.
"Shit, sorry baby," he said, not really looking sorry at all as he gave Laurent a quick kiss.
Despite the dull ache in his side, Laurent watched Larry with a smile on his face as Larry hauled ass for the door, suddenly wide awake with the promise of good food.
Laurent killed time answering a few messages until Larry re-emerged a few minutes later, bowl in one hand, coffee in the other, and a Danish hanging out of his mouth. Laurent was genuinely surprised he hadn't loaded an entire tray just for good measure.
Resuming his spot in front of Laurent, Larry put his coffee aside and reclined against Laurent's chest, finally removing the pastry from his mouth.
"Thank you, Lau," he said, leaning his head back against Laurent's shoulder briefly.
"You're welcome, baby," Laurent answered, wrapping his arms around Larry from behind and pressing a kiss to his temple.
"Bite?" Larry asked, holding the pastry up.
Laurent grinned. It still amazed him on a daily basis just how fucking cute Larry could be. And it wasn't often that Larry, of all people, offered to share food when there was plenty for others to get their own.
"You go ahead. I'll get something in a bit."
At that, Larry leaned back and tilted his head, meeting Laurent's eyes with a worried look on his face. "Is everything okay?"
"Yeah, everything is fine. We just need to talk about some things," Laurent answered truthfully.
Larry groaned and eyeballed the Danish with a frown. "I should have known better. A pastry is never just a pastry."
Laurent burst out laughing, his head falling back against the chair. When he looked down again, he found Larry just staring at him wide-eyed until a smile slowly spread across his face. As he tightened his arms, Laurent rested his mouth against Larry's temple, realizing he honestly couldn't remember the last time he'd laughed so hard.
"I promise the pastry has no ulterior motives," he chuckled, "and neither do I. But I did talk to one of my attorneys this morning."
Larry's body tensed, but Laurent wasn't surprised that Larry would expect the worst. Okay, so maybe the pastries had good ulterior motives...
