It had been an insane week of ups and downs...their offer on the house accepted, accusations from Caroline's parents, meetings with Charles Roarke and assurances that all was well, plans for the new studio...and work. It seemed there was always work to be done.
Larry made his way through the house to Laurent's office and stopped in the doorway, just watching Laurent as he frowned drowsily at his computer screen.
"Are you coming to bed?" Larry asked quietly.
Laurent's head popped up, and immediately his harsh expression softened.
"Yeah, baby," he replied with a sigh. "I'll be right there."
Rather than leave, Larry made his way around the side of the immense desk, and Laurent swiveled his chair to face him. They were drawn together like magnets, pulled to one another by some unseen force. As soon as Larry was within reach, he planted his hands on Laurent's thighs, bracing himself as he settled in the floor on his knees. But this wasn't a seduction, something Laurent clearly understood as Larry plastered himself against Laurent's reclining body, their arms wrapping protectively around one another.
Larry took a deep breath, relishing Laurent's scent as he felt a hand push his hair from his face...warm, soft lips resting against his forehead.
"Are you okay?" Larry asked softly. "I mean, really okay?"
Laurent had always hidden so much of himself from the outside world. And for the first time since they met, he was trying to hide from Larry too.
Of course, Larry understood. It was only out of concern and an effort to protect him...but Larry never wanted Laurent to feel that alone again.
"Yes," Laurent replied firmly, his arms pulling them tighter against one another. "Are you?"
Larry simply nodded at first, his cheek against Laurent's chest. But then he pulled back just far enough for their eyes to connect. He needed Laurent to really hear him.
"I'm not gonna break, Lau..." he answered even more softly than usual, resting his chin on Laurent's chest and looking up with worried eyes. "Even if things go wrong or it all falls apart. I've lived with nothing before, and I'm okay with whatever happens as long as I'm with you."
Laurent slipped his fingers beneath Larry's chin and lifted his head, brushing a kiss to his lips with so much love it was physically painful.
"You will always have me," Laurent answered with a tilt of his head, his thumb stroking Larry's cheek.
"I know that," Larry replied openly and honestly, a smile tugging at his lips. "So what are you working on? You're never in here this late."
Larry knew exactly what Laurent was doing, but it was time to quit dancing around the subject.
"Honestly? Trying to write an email to my father, not that I'm getting very far," Laurent answered, glancing at his computer screen with exhaustion written all over his face.
Larry straightened slightly with eyebrows lifted in curiosity.
"So how's it going?" he asked cautiously.
"Shitty."
Laurent's answer was bitter, but a hint of a smirk graced his beautiful features.
Larry knew that Laurent had been struggling with the whole father thing, but he'd waited patiently for Laurent to come to his own conclusions. This wasn't the kind of thing he should push, and Larry had made sure Laurent knew he wasn't in this alone, which was all that mattered in the end.
"So...an email, huh?" Larry asked, not at all surprised by the method of contact Laurent had chosen.
"Yeah, I figured it was the least invasive way to reach out. Who knows if he'll want anything to do with me?"
