"armin? are you okay? what happened?" mikasa asks armin as she walks over towards us. his head still hangs low as tears fall down his cheeks.

"we were..." armin starts as he raises his head a little, "the cadets of squad 34, thomas wagner, nack tierce, milieus zeremski, mina carolina, eren jaeger. these brave five upheld their duties. they died valiantly on the field of battle". armin sobs after finishing his sentence and the rest of us feel as though we've been hit by a train.

almost the whole squad, gone.

"the entire squad was wiped out?" nearby cadets start to talk, "the same will happen to us if we try to take on those titans".

"it should've been me that died" armin says shakily while crying on his knees, "i... i couldn't do a thing. i'm worthless".

"armin, it's alright" i say as i grab his hand.

"calm yourself. we don't have time for you to get emotional right now" mikasa says blankly without any emotion, "on your feet". i stand up and use my hand that's clutched in armin's to help him gain balance.

"marco, if we get through the titans at headquarters, we can refuel out gear and everyone can get back over the wall. is that correct?" mikasa asks.

"well, yeah, i guess so" the freckled boy replies, "but there's just too many of them, even with you on point".

"i can do it" mikasa immediately snaps back, "im strong. none of you come close. i am a warrior! i have the power to slay all the titans that block our path; even if i have to do it alone. as far as im concerned, i am surrounded by a bunch of unskilled cowardly worms. you disappoint me, you can all just sit here and twiddle your thumbs. well watch how it's done".

"wait, mikasa. what are you saying?" a girl asks.

"you can't be serious, trying to take them out by yourself?" another adds.

"if i can't beat them, then i die. but if i win, i live. and the only way to win is to fight" mikasa replies before taking off on her odm gear by herself.

"she's not going alone. not as long as i can help it" i say.

"i'm with you" connie says and jean nods.

"hey! we weren't taught to let our comrades fight alone! unless you are a coward, and in which case stay out of my way!" jean yells to the cadets before the three of us chase after mikasa.

"it seems you have a way with words" i jokingly say to jean as i look behind us and see the rest of the cadets trailing after our group.

"we have to hurry, avoid fighting if you can!" jean yells to the group behind us. mikasa continues to zip in front of us at lightning speed while every so often one of us will kill a titan.

"woah, how is mikasa going so fast?" connie asks.

"she's using too much gas. she might not even make it to HQ" i point out before mikasa then slows down and crashes onto a rooftop.

"mikasa!" armin yells.

"jean, y/n, you lead the others back to HQ. armin and i will help mikasa" connie commands.

"no, we'll come with you" i suggest.

"don't be stupid, there are still titans everywhere" connie replies before going after armin.

"jean, what should we do?" i ask.

"here, let's land over here so we can come up with a plan" jean says before pulling over onto a nearby rooftop and i follow behind him. as my feet touch the textured roof, jean examines the horizon in front of us.
