according to reports from the scout regiment, it was anticipated that the titans would appear from the south. these reports were proven accurate when the titans attacked shiganshina district, located on the southern side of wall maria. therefore, it was surmised that their next most likely target would be the fortified city of trost on the southern side of wall rose.

"did you hear about the new plan?" i ask connie while walking over to him.

"no, what new plan?" he asks while eating a piece of bread.

"apparently they're going to have eren plug the hole in the wall" i explain, "as a titan".

"what? are you serious?" connie asks, "no offense to eren but are we sure he can actually do it?".

"i don't think we have much of a say. it was armin who came up with the idea and now commander pixis is going with it" i say, "how did you not know?"

"what do you mean not know? does everyone else know but me?" connie asks while looking around.

"yeah, word gets around fast" i nervously laugh while trying to lighten the mood.

"cadets group together, the plan is about to take place!" a higher up from the garrison conducts us and we do as he's told. the rest of us still standing file into a large crowd and try to pick out our friends.

"have you seen jean?" i ask while standing on my toes while trying to find him.

"no, shouldn't be that hard to pick him out though. he's a head taller than everyone else" marco says while fixing his belt.

"i know, but i still don't see him" i say before feeling a tap on my shoulder. i turn around and look up to see jean's body behind mine, "oh there you are". jean then leans down and begins to say something in my ear.

"everyone is freaking out. look around, people are crying or shaking left and right" jean says, "this won't end well". i do as he tells me to and he's right, our comrades are throwing fits and some are even passing out from fear.

"that sure is uplifting," i say to him sarcastically as he stands back up straight.

"attention!" a strong voice yells through the air. we look over to see that the voice is coming from on top of the wall: it's commander pixis. "take note. the blueprint of the trost recovery operation is this: our primary objective is to reseal the hole. as for how the task will be done, that's where this fellow comes in. allow me to introduce cadet eren jaeger. this young man is the successful product of cutting-edge research. cadet jaeger possesses the ability to manifest himself as a titan. having assumed titan form, cadet jaeger will hoist that immense boulder near the front gate on his back and seal the hole with it".

"is he crazy?" connie says to us.

"just shut up and listen, dumbass" ymir replies.

"your duties are to protect him from the other titans" pixis finishes.

"the kid can lift a rock that big? is he saying we finally have an advantage?" a man from the garrison regiment worries. 

"they're lying!" dad yells as if he's manic, "you can't expect us to die for some godforsaken reason! we're just disposable tools for you people".

"it's all a deception! we're being duped!" other soldiers begin to talk as i start to begin to wonder if what they're saying is true. 

"this is not how i'm going down. i'm out of here" another soldier says before storming off. two women nod to each other and follow him before plenty of people are walking away from their duties. 

"so help me god, i will execute you on the spot! that's treason!" a man from the garrison regiment says while trying to stop one of the cadets and grabbing his shoulder.
