Iris
Today is April 1st. I woke up bright and early since it is the dawn of my 17th birthday. A day every girl in Asgard waits for. Whether we're from a family of nobles, or if we're servant girls, it is our birthright to visit the palace and get a blessing from the Allmother, Frigga. Nobody must ever speak about what they're blessing was unless it was to their first born daughter. I didn't get to know about my mothers since she died giving birth to my little sister Pluto. She turns 17 in two more years, and she cannot wait.
But neither can I.
I got out of bed and opened the curtains letting the sunrise shine into the small, perfectly square room I share with Pluto. "Pluto" I sang, "today's the day!" I opened the window to let the fresh air in and took a deep breath. I heard Pluto stirring in the bed. "Iris" she yawned, "father isn't even awake yet. Do you believe it's nec-" I cut her off and held her at the shoulders "Pluto I get to visit the Allmother today! This is very necessary, I can already feel it's something good!" She rolled her eyes and let out a small giggle getting out of bed. "Okay okay, I'll get breakfast starting and wake father. You get ready." She kissed me on the cheek walking past me.
Pluto was not only my sister but my best friend. Now, our father wasn't ever mean, but we never had any feminine guidance from our mother since she died when we were so young. Pluto means the world to me.
On our closet door, I have a beautiful dress hanging up. It's long, and emerald green, its soft as silk, and the long sleeves are a pretty lace with some jewels. I saved 4 years of allowances for this dress. The emerald color brings out my light blue eyes, and the purple speckles in them, and compliments my long brown hair nicely. I was always told I was beautiful, by my sister Pluto, but believing it was different. My dad only called me beautiful once, and thats when I was trying the dress on, so I had to get it.
I got out of my pajamas and put the dress on. It fit me perfectly in all the right ways. To go with it, a pair of black wedges. I've never worn anything to give me more height in my life. I always managed, I'm oddly short for an Asgardian but I've been told my mother was shorter than me and im 5 foot 5 inches! (165cm). Most woman my age are at least 3 inches taller than me.
I took my hair down and went traditionally with Asgardian braids. Once I was done, so was breakfast.
I met my father and Pluto in the kitchen and was surprised to see a small array of fruit, eggs, sausage and pancakes.
"Oh, this is just too much! Father how did you afford all of this?" I asked.
"Hey don't look at me. This was all Plutos doing." He said looking proudly at my sister.
I gasped and gave Pluto a big hug. "Pluto this is at least four months allowance!" She shrugged "It's nothing if it's for you Iris. You deserve a special breakfast on your special day. I love you." She squeezed before letting me go. "I love you too" I replied, and we dug in.
---
After breakfast, father and Pluto walked me to our small stable. We only have two horses, that's all we need. My father took Butter out of the stable, she's our best horse. She was all saddled and ready to go so I jumped on.
I told my father and sister that I love them, and I went on my way.
"See you tonight Iris!" Pluto called.
Little did we both know that I wouldn't be back tonight.
