I woke up the next morning to the sound of birds chirping, which was much different than the usual loud beeping of my alarm clock. Before getting out of my bed I stretched and looked at the time on my phone. It was 6:20 but I wasn't surprised it took me a while to adjust to sleeping in new places. In fact I had mostly just tossed and turned last night, I was lucky to get any sleep.

I got up from the bed slowly and walked over to the window. I was just in time to watch the sun rise over the ocean giving off a pink, orange, and yellowish glow. The ocean reflected the sunrise adding to the beautiful scene. Watching the sunrise was my absolute favorite part of the day, it always took my breath away.

Since I figured no one else would be up for a few hours and knew there was a hour time difference between Colorado and California, I decided to call one of my close friends from Colorado. Her name is Victoria and she is basically how I made it through foster care. She was in foster care too until she got adopted three months ago. Until then we basically slept, breathed, and ate together. We were inseparable and she was the closest thing to family I ever had until now.

"Hey," she said as she answered on the first ring.

"Hey girl, what's up?," I said.

"What's up with me, I'm not the one who just got a new family, what's up with you?, she said in astonishment.

"Well their really nice, I mean from what I can tell, we haven't exactly spoke much," I told her almost muttering. I knew she wouldn't like the fact I haven't got to talk to them much especially considering they had already missed out on 16 years of my life.

"What do you mean you haven't talked to them much. They already missed out on 16 years of your life. Don't they think your important enough to sit down and explain everything to you," Victoria said in an an angry tone.

"You know it's not like that Vic... their just really busy," I had to pause knowing whatever reason I gave Victoria wouldn't please her.

"I'm sorry your right. It's not my place to judge them," Victoria sighed "I just know how much you've been through and want the best for you."

I suddenly smelled the aroma of bacon and eggs. Figuring that Jessica was up and cooking breakfast I decided to bring the conversation to a end.

"Thanks for the concern. I really appreciate it but I assure you everything is fine. Anyway I think breakfast is ready so I have to go. Bye Vic, have a good day!," I told her while getting up from my seat and walking down the hallway.

"Alright take care, Bye!," she replied back.

As I walked into the kitchen I was hit with the tempting aroma of breakfast food. I see eggs being fried in a pan and pancakes oozing with butter. My mouth practically watered. The food looks and smells so good I don't even notice it's not Jessica fixing the food, it's Matt.

"Good morning! Did you sleep well?," Matt asks with a smile on his face.

"Sure did. What about you?," I said returning his politeness. What was I supposed to say, I slept awful, I can never sleep in new places because of the nightmares.

"Never better. I put your food on a plate on the table. You can go ahead and eat if you want. I'm going to let everyone else sleep until they wake on their own."

I walked to the table and laughed when I saw the pancake had a face made from whipped cream and assorted berries."

"What? Are you making fun of my masterpiece?," he asked with a goofy grin on his face.

"Not at all I was actually just admiring how much effort you put into it. Not that I'm complaining but why are you the one fixing my breakfast?," I said as I took the first bite of my pancake.

"I just thought it would be a nice thing to do considering your dad has been working so hard and it's your first morning here."

A short while later our conversation fell to silence. I studied him while he fixed the rest of the pancakes. Everytime he tossed a pancake into the air to flip it you could tell how muscular he was. His face was filled with concentration as if making these pancakes would define his whole life.

"So I heard you have a lunch date with your dad today," he said bringing me back to reality.

"Yeah we need to have a talk about everything. I hope our talk goes good."

"Why wouldn't it? Y'all are both amazing people," Matt said as he set a plate down for the rest of my family members.

"That means a lot thanks. The food tasted like heaven by the way," I replied.

"Glad you like it, want anything else?," he asked with a pleased look on his face.

"No thanks if you don't mind I'm going to excuse myself and go back to my room."

"Not at all hope your lunch date goes well," he said looking sincere. I walked back to my room and decided to go back to sleep.

Waking up a few hours later I noticed I only had an hour to get ready so I needed to hurry. Now that people would know me has Clay Moore's daughter I had appearances to keep up.

I decided to go through my closest to look for something to wear knowing nothing I owned would be good enough. A flash of blue caught my eye. I moved the rest of my clothes over to see what it was.

It was a strapless blue dress with a sweetheart neckline. The dress was made of lace and by far the most beautiful dress I had ever seen. A note was attached to it.

It said: "Thought you might want something new to wear. There is jewelry and shoes to go with it in the living room. I would have brought them to you but I ordered them and they didn't come in until late last night."

I felt like a princess looking at the dress I was about to wear. I wondered just how much this had cost.
