The sky was now a bright, happy blue. There were no clouds in the sky. The sun shined upon the city of Yokohama. At long last, the storm had passed. Although, Y/n wished for the storm to last longer. Just a little longer. Just long enough for her to one day see Odasaku smile.
The closest she could ever be to him now, was if she laid beside his gravestone.
She was thankful for the shady tree that saved her from the piercing glare of the indifferent sun. She had been on the grass for who knows how long. She lost track of time, falling asleep at times and getting lost in dreams and memories of him. And sometimes, she cried and wailed loudly, and other times, she was simply quiet.
When she felt the presence of another person approaching, she didn't bother to observe who it was, for she already knew.
Dazai sat down on the other side of Odasaku's grave. Initially, they exchanged no words, letting the birds in the trees do the talking. Then, he spoke.
"It's a good napping place, huh?"
She nodded listlessly. "You got a new outfit. Looks nice,"
He looked down at his own clothes. "Thanks. I like it too." He chuckled to himself. "You wanna know how I felt about you the first time we met?"
"I hated you," Y/n said candidly.
Dazai seemed taken aback, but then he let out a loud laugh. "I'm glad the feeling was mutual."
A breeze passed by, sweeping over the two. "We have one thing in common, though," Dazai said, looking ahead, past the horizon.
"Yes," She said.
"You know," Said, he, shifting his position. "I somehow managed to land a job in the Armed Detective Agency. It is a good organization. The Port Mafia can't hurt us there. I could probably get a job for you there as well, if you'd like."
She turned her head to the side. "I think I'll stay here for a little while."
Dazai gazed at her, then smiled pitifully. He stood up, brushing the grass off the back of his cloak. "Yeah, that sounds like you. Anyway I'll be there for whenever you change your mind."
She was never going to change her mind. She would forever lay beside Odasaku, dreaming of the day they would at last see each other once more, where she would find him sitting underneath a bridge while a wild, uncertain storm brewed overhead. And when she would find him, sitting there like a child with his knees to his chest, she would sit there beside him and wrap her arms around him and stay there forever. With a dandelion in her hair.
But she knew better than that. She would one day finally stand up from underneath that tree and follow Dazai into the Armed Detective Agency.
That day, however, could wait a little longer.
