I quickly scramble for my phone and dialed my father's number. "Dad, Are you ok?" I was shouting into the phone above the sound of crashing buildings. " I am fine sweetheart, but listen to me carefully. Are you with Adrian?"
"Yes, I am but wait is Luna ok? Is she with you? What about mom? I hope--"
"They are all here. Now Adrian has a car. Hop on with him. I will send you the location--"
"Location to where?"
"To the center of it all. We are going to the MUNDUS headquarters. Now hurry. You don't have---" With the sound of a crash, the line ended.
"Adrian do you----"
"We don't have time for explanations." With that, he brutally pulled me with him to the garage to see a silver Mercedes Gen Beta model. For a second I just wanted to gape at it but I was pushed into the vehicle. "Jen, Activate Manual drive."
"Activating Manual drive." A female voice was notified.
A soon he pressed the power button the whole car and engine were roaring in with a satisfying hum. There was a lot of leg space but I wasn't 6"1. So adjusted the car seat but the great Adrian Buford the swineherd bolted the car without any forewarning. I desperately held on cringing at the velocity we were going in. We were now approaching the city and before giving any time to even glance the phone tower on the side of the highway collapsed. I was grateful that the catastrophe did not happen anywhere near us.
We were now nearing the building which thought wasn't wise with the possibility of buildings toppling down. The tremors have stopped. I looks at Adrian and with the confused look in his eyes, I knew he was thinking of the same thing. Since when did earthquakes abruptly stop? To answer my question a tremor happened that sent vibrations through the whole framework of the car.
We were now on the main road with buildings that look like shining mirrors. It would have been a beautiful sight if there weren't trepidatious people running for their dear life. A man was running through the street wearing a white shirt, a black suit and....... underwear. I would have laughed my guts out if I wasn't just as flustered.
We seem to slow down to stop in front of a signal which seems to be crowded with cars desperately honking behind. There were a hundred cars in front of us not caring about traffic laws and when I look behind us thousands and more coming were trying to get their family and friend to safety. At least Adrian and I had a definite destination. But where are all these people go? On the zebra crossing, a woman with a stroller in hand was running across when another tremor occurred. It sent me jolting forward and If I wasn't wearing a seatbelt I would have hit my head on the dashboards. That poor woman fell and I am more than sure that her short pencil shirt did not provide any safeguard against the fall.
It seems that the foreshock sent all the cars to go haywire cause all of the cars' lights were malfunctioning. I opened the door cringing against the never-ending inconsistent honking I went to help the woman with the crying baby. I heard Adrian cursing and coming after me.
"Mrs are you all right?" Helping her to get up. It unnerving how much sweat was on her palms. Without replying she started whispering to her baby desperately trying to comfort her.
"Let's get back into the car even though we are not going to move anytime soon," Adrian stated. I turn around to meet his wicked green eyes. "Why are so eager to get inside the car huh?" I shout-asked through the chaos raising my eyebrows cause we were trying to help the lady but to my comfort she was already running away.
"You mean to turn down an opportunity to be alone in a car with a hot girl?" He whisper-shouted with a chuckle leaning into me.
Rolling my eyes I replied, "Sorry, I don't date swineherds." I declared with a smile. It was unreal how his aura can make me joke at a time like this. At least I will die laughing. Before he could reply a huge tremor sent the ground shaking. I shook to the bones. Impulsively I held Adrian's hand. Without the need to exchange words, Adrian started to make his way to the car when the sound of thunderstruck us in cold blood. It was so loud that the obnoxious honking was nothing comparatively.
And we all saw it unfold. There was a huge creaking sound and trailing behind that the skyscraper started to tilt slowly. Now we weren't the only ones out of their car. People were screaming, some wailing. It was pure chaos that I doubted that the beginning of the universe was more orderly than this. The tower standing edict at 90 degrees now stand tilted at 60 the 45 degrees and then it crashed with such velocity and force that I and Adrian were thrown off our feet. I hit my head on the pavement.
The crowd of cars and small buildings all crushed underneath its humongous framework. It was just mere luck that has left us alive because of the distance between the skyscraper and us. All those who were not lucky were.....
I laid on the ground not bothering to stand up thinking of all those people fucking crushed alive. Then I remembered. Adrian.
I stood up to see the colossal wreck before me. There was barely 100 cars distance between me and the debris. I felt a sharp pain in my abdomen to see a metal shard embedded. Nausea washed over me at that sight. I closed my eyes.
Everything is going to be alright.
Breath in.
Breath out.
Suddenly someone clutching my shoulder said. "Miss, we have to move." I open my eyes to a military officer. He was wearing a helmet and Machinoid parts trailing his limbs and chest which ended gloving his fingers.
I have seen these in work. The add to normal human strange. Wearing one of these with adequate training you are almost unstoppable. You can jump up about a maximum of 8 feet, and carry a load of 5 grown men. But before I could explain I was looking for Adrian he pushed me onto a military bus that had a machine gun mounted on top. I enter to see that lady I saw before but this time she did not have a stroller in her hands. She was crying ruining her perfect makeup snorting and wailing. That sight placed a stone of guilt the weight at the bottom of my chest.
I turned around to explain Adrian was missing but before I could reach the door closed on me and we were already on our way.
