Cale closed his eyes, placing down the pen. Rain droplets danced across his window sill, filling the quiet room with their calming sound. Cale enjoyed the moment, recording it into his records. He sighed, pulling back his hair.
He hated paperwork, whether it was as Kim Rok Soo or Cale Henituse. He thought of how the current Kim Rok Soo must be drowning in paperwork. It was not as if he was any better. He would be sure to visit his dear hyung-nim tomorrow.
Cale walked to the window, opening it up. He silently watched the darkness before putting his pale hand out. The rain droplets gently gathered in his palm.
"~Rok Soo-ah~" Min Jae Hyun, poked Kim Rok Soo's cheeks. Kim Rok Soo only moved his hands away, continuing to work on his endless paperwork. "Ah...to be ignored by my beloved~ What wrong have I done?"
Kim Rok Soo, who had become an expert in ignoring Min Jae Hyun's dramatic whining, continued to work on his paperwork. The sooner he was finished, the longer he would be able to watch the dramatic idiot. "Do your work."
"Babe, you're no fun-" Choi Jung Soo playfully smacked Jae Hyun's head.
"My dear dongsaeng is so cute. He's even doing his lover's work," Jung Soo wiped a fake tear, wrapping his arm around Jae Hyun's neck. "But look at this ungrateful punk." He ruffled Jae Hyun's hair.
"Who's your dongsaeng?" Rok Soo glared at him. They were the same age. If anything, Jae Hyun, who was a year younger than them, was their dongsaeng.
"The one and only, Kim Rok Soo of course," Jung Soo ran out of the room before Kim Rok Soo could retaliate.
"What are you doing?" Rok Soo eyed the pile of paper in Jae Hyun's arms. Min Jae Hyun smirked before taking a seat next to him.
"Spending some time with my lover of course." Kim Rok Soo and Min Jae Hyun worked side by side. The only sound in the room was the turning of paper, the scribbling of pens, fingers hitting their keyboards and the rain droplets.
Kim Rok Soo, who hated working, did not mind all the paperwork. In fact, he wished there was more. A little more, to make the short night longer.
Cale smiled longingly. He wanted to watch the rain a little longer before returning to the painfully lifeless room.
"See crown prince, the human is not acting like himself," The children averaging ten, turned the video communication device away from Cale's figure. The crown prince - now emperor - nodded his head.
"Raon-nim, thank you for letting me know." When Alberu first got the call from the children averaging ten, he thought it was because of the endless paperwork he had passed to his dear dongsaeng but now, he was worried. What could make his dongsaeng smile so longingly? Dare he say it, the expression was like that of someone who lost their lover, similar to the one his father used to have. He shook that thought away.
The crown prince and the children were not the only ones to notice. Ron and Beacrox watched Cale from the shadows. The golden dragon Eruhaben, who had come to visit (after receiving a long message from a certain black dragon) had seen the smile on Cale's face and Choi Han, who was just bringing an update to Cale-nim. He stood frozen at the door. Cale, too immersed in the record, did not notice his presence.
Only Choi Han understood the longing. He recalled one of Choi Jung Soo's memories.
"Aigoo, my cute dongsaeng." Choi Jung Soo found Rok Soo sleeping peacefully on Jae Hyun's shoulder. Jae Hyun put a finger on his lips, signaling him to be quiet. Jung Soo left to find a blanket. After all, it was not every day Kim Rok Soo slept so peacefully.
The rain continued to pour, as Kim Rok Soo slept leaning on his lover, wrapped in a warm blanket, with the most carefree expression anyone had seen.
Choi Han clenched his fists. He knew there was little he or anyone could do. He promised to spend more time with Cale and their family. That was what Choi Jung Soo and Lee Soo Huyk had done.
That was the best any one of them could do for the man who had given them a home and a family.
