Zular kept walking to no where. He went through a few winters just walking. He passed to another country and took form of a tiger, but he was still engulfed in shadows. He will always be that way.
Zular has been alone ever since he went outside of that cabin. The Monsters of Silence only watched as he passed by. Not daring to mess with him. He was still powerful, and dangerous.
To Zular's surprise, very few Monsters of Silence know about his truce with the human, Zach.
That name haunts Zular. Every time he thinks about that name, he shudders. Then he remembers what happened to Zach. He tries to fight back grief, guilt, remorse, whimpers, and pain. If he could cry, he would. But he can't now.
Zular looks around, now in Brazil, in the beautiful trees. Plants flourishing, but no animals. Nothing to embrace the trees as they grow, and no humans can stop it. But the Monsters of Silence stopped the humans. They're afraid now.
Humans have evolved to be above everything. They have adapted to every land corner on the planet to live there. Wether it be freezing cold, or piping hot, they are there.
But humans couldn't think fast enough for these tough, and agile creatures. So they died trying.
Zular enters a warehouse, breaking and abandoned. It's ruins now. But Zular senses something worth looking in there for.
It's pitch black and smells horrible from the rotting bodies. The building that used to have brilliant and bold paint on it, is now dull. Like everything else, it is so quiet that it's deadly.
Zular looks at the bodies, seeing the tears of the limbs and bites, he knows it was from the Monsters of Silence. He can make an accurate guess without even looking upon how they died.
It's usually obvious though. In an apocalypse like this, it's pretty easy to figure it out.
Plus, why would a human kill another human? Unless humans can turn into Monsters of Silence.
Zular sat and thought about that. Wondering if that is possible. He wouldn't know unless he talked to the Elders. He shuddered at the thought. Going to them just to ask a simple question. They would find it disrespectful, and uncaring. They wouldn't answer him unless...
"If they heard my name or knew about my person, maybe they would." Zular said to himself and looked up to the sky, a bit hopeful now.
Zular shook his head and kept walking through the city, wanting to find someone else. A doubt in his mind that the Elders would answer him.
After a while, Zular came across fresh human tracks. He growls at them, thinking it's a trap from the Monsters of Silence, then he remembered they are not that coordinated enough to be that complex, or smart. So he followed the human steps and scent that is planted into the mud. Both excited and scared.
The human could be making this a trap, and kill him, or the human could be trying to find actual food. Then there's the possibility that this is all just some big fluke and he just happened to walk by.
But nonetheless, out of all his thoughts, he continues on. Making his way towards the sunrise. As he makes his way closer, the scent gets stronger, and stronger. The tracks get more and more fresh.
Soon, the figure appears, next to a shed that belonged to what used to be a cabin. But now it's all torn and in ruin, and the shed is being kept nicely.
Zular approaches with caution, afraid that the human figure was dangerous. Maybe a traveller like Zach was? Maybe she doesn't believe in threats such as I?
Going to the person was a gamble. The person could either run, or not. The person could do anything. The human could even be a trap from the Monsters of Silence to prove he's gotten soft and not fulfilling his duty.
But nonetheless, he goes up to the person and ever so slightly, touches her with his nose. She immediately turns around, picking up the axe as if to swing it at him. But Zular just looks at the person with his glowing red eyes, not moving at all, daring her with his gaze to swing at him.
The girl stares at him, her dark brown eyes reflect that of death and fear. Lacking hope and seeing no light. Her hair is fluffed, washed not too long ago. Her clothes are loose and in camouflage, some sort of fabric, unknown to Zular, covers her mouth and nose. She has a belt on, some sort of blades that Zular cannot identify are there, and something sticks out from behind het shoulder. He sees something tied to the wooden object.
The woman stares at Zular curiously. What is she thinking? Zular wondered. He wished he could read minds. But that would only cause more suspicion in the human's eyes, and more anger probably.
Zular and the woman stare at each other for a good few minutes. Not moving. The only sound between the two of them was the soft and gentle sound of the woman's breathing. Her only movement was her torso from breathing. Something Zular would never understand.
Zular could hear a faint heartbeat, which was the woman's. Her muscles were flexed and she was shaking slightly. Her muscles were getting tired and she was scared.
The woman slowly moves her hand to her belt. Waiting for Zular to give her an excuse to make a defensive move.
"No need for that, miss." Zular tells her calmly. Her hand freezes just before she gets to the blades. "You speak?" She asks quietly, more of a statement though.
Zular looks at her confused. Why would she ask that? "Yes, I speak." He answers. Glad she actually spoke instead of Zach, who took a while in order to say even three words. Even then he didn't speak that much. Only said who he was and told him something in sadness and about some event that took place.
Strange.
She smiled as she looked at Zular. As if she were planning something for him. Zular cocked his head to the side and looked at her curiously.
"Well, I'm February!" She says happily and holds out her hand, kneeling on one knee. Zular sits and puts a paw in her hand to shake.
"I'm Zular. Nice to meet you, February. That's a nice name." Zular complimented nicely. She smiles and giggles. A joy for Zular to be around...if she choses it. He can't force her to.
"I only recently found out what month is was, self declaring it my birthday." She tells Zular. The shadow tiger looks at her curiously. Wanting to know how.
She giggles and gets up. "It's an ancient structure that knew the months of the year by the location of the sun! It's really amazing! I would show you, but it's all the way in a desert I believe. I also forgot the location." February tells him. Zular nods slowly, unsure of the human. But her scent is awfully familiar. He has to know what it is.
"That's fine, February. I'm sure we'll come across the structure when we need to." He tells her. She nods and goes back to cutting wood. The sound is deafening to Zular. He forgot to calm down his predatory senses.
"Are you sure that's smart, February?" Zular asks her. She simply shrugs and continues on with her chopping, not caring at all that the Monsters of Silence have a homing device on sound waves from miles around.
Zular cringes and sets off a low growl, not wanting another human to get hurt because of his carelessness, able to do something. He couldn't let it happen again.
February looks at Zular, confused. He looks at her, eyes glowing red and brightly. February just glares at him, holding the axe as if to chop a head off the neck of a human. But Zular willingly knows that he cannot be torn limb from limb. He is made up of shadows.
"Go ahead, make my day. Silence a monster if you can. I'm only trying to help you." Zular growls. February looks at Zular curiously, wondering if she can trust him after saying he's a monster himself. She was curious, and wanted to know why he's trying to help her.
"You are a strange creature, Zular." February tells him. He nods slightly, waiting for her to use the axe. But instead, she tucks the blade into the ground. "I will listen to you then, seeing as you're one of them, you should know more about them." February says.
Zular nods and the two start walking.
Zular has now found a purpose. He has now found, a reason.
