The silent night dawned again. The whole side of the world engulfed in darkness. The monsters of silence roaming the streets for another night of hide-and-eat with the people. Making high screeches in excitement, or when a fight breaks out between a two of them.
In the building where the growl the traveler stumbled upon, emerges a creature with glowing red eyes, fur that turns to black smoke. It looks like the skinned wolf the traveler dawned upon on earlier.
The wolf-like creature goes over to the fight and growls in annoyance. The two monsters stop trying to eat each other and pretend to be nice to each other. Looking at the wolf-like creature as if to say; We were playing nice!
The shadowed engulfed creature doubts this, but walks away, the direction the traveler went, not approving the monster's behaviour at night.
The wolf creature stops in front of the bank the traveler is at. The monster sniffs the doors and growls, "This is not the smartest idea." before going in. The fumes from the dead wolf are slithering into it's nostrils and it barks in pain. It goes to the safe and quickly goes in, almost tripping over the traveler.
The traveler has a shirt and pants on. His bag is next to him. His blanket is underneath him, along with his coat, scarf, and hat. Anything more comfortable than the floor he could get.
The creature looks upon the man, studying him. The creature never got a look at a person that's alive for longer than a few seconds. They all run away in fear. Fear of the creatures, good or bad.
The creature looks down and whimpers quietly. The traveler wakes up, over-looks the creature, then falls right back to sleep. Completely unaware of the fact that there's another Monster of Silence with him. Only the creature is "deformed" from the rest.
More evolved to be exact.
He isn't like the others, if it's not clear enough. The pointed ears and red eyes might of not given it away too well. But there's a difference.
He is well stated as the "Leader of Silence" by the travellers who had seen the living shadow themselves. But to the traveler who is asleep in front of him doesn't believe there's a bigger threat than the basic Monsters of Silence that are everywhere at once.
But here they are. The two opposites in the same room. Neither has been killed.
"The fox and the rabbit...how did he miss me?" He asks himself through another series of low growls. The wolf stares at the person, head cocked to the side a bit. Annoyed that he doesn't have the urge to kill the person, that he can't even lift a shadowy paw to do so.
Not even a snarl.
"Why?" The creature asks itself. About to howl angrily in annoyance and bitterness.
The creature watches the man, laying down until he awakens. The creature is very patient as he waits. But before long, a Monster of Silence slithers in. To the traveller it makes no noise. To the creature, it's making a cat-like noise with dog-like growling mixed in. A hint of bear in there too, making a harmonic sound.
The creature growls and gets up. The monster stops dead in it's tracks, scared. He goes out and keeps growling. The monster shrieks then runs off quickly. The creature goes back to the traveler.
After a few long hours; in the middle of day; the traveller wakes up and looks around. His eyes lock on the creature, both curiosity and fear pour in as thoughts about death fill his mind. The creature growls at this.
"I'm not going to kill you." the creature replies. The traveller nods slowly, unsure about this "Trust" he should have in a killer. The creature sits down. Back straight and ears pointed up high. The traveler slowly nods, and sits up too.
"Do you remember your name?" The creature asks. The traveller shakes his head no.
The creature nods a bit concerned for the traveller. He doesn't speak. Nor remember his own name.
"This bank isn't the safest spot. The dead wolf is symbolizing that the other 'monsters' own this place." The wolf informs the traveller. He nods and starts putting his stuff away. The creature watches, piqued. Why doesn't he speak?
The traveller finishes his bag and slips it on. He stands up, nods to the creature, and walks out quietly. The creature follows the traveller. The traveller sighs, annoyed. He doesn't want the creature following and making noise. Again, the traveller never really has anyone with him. He's usually alone in this world.
The bright sky shone down on them, warming the traveller, and the creature has no cast shadow. The creature waves it's tail slowly back and forth, observing the human with pure interest.
"You're wondering why I haven't killed you yet, are you?" The creature asks. The traveller nods as he continues walking. "Well, I honestly don't know why. I don't get the slightest spark of a thought of killing you." The creature explains. The traveller nods, listening to the wolf, it was nice to have another voice besides his own, even if it is low and demonic.
The creature doesn't mind the human either. He likes having something else that isn't like the other monsters. To the creature, the Monsters of Silence are stupid and uncoordinated for the job they're supposed to do.
"I'm Zular." The creature tells the traveller. The traveller nods as he continues to walk along the cracked road.
"I'm Zach." The traveller says after a few minutes, finding his voice. Zular looks at the human, surprised that he spoke. The creature says nothing more as they exit the city and go onto the old highway.
The sun is high in the sky, heating the ground like an oven. The dark concrete becoming hotter for the traveller's feet. The two haven't spoken a word for quite some time. The traveller is more worried about the Monsters of Silence rather than Zular.
After all, Zular had told him that he wouldn't kill him. But does that mean he never would? After all, he is a creature.
But another side of him scolded him for believing that all the creatures are bad. He doesn't know if Zular is capable of keeping his word or not. But the shadow creature did seem smart and able to do as he pleases.
If he is a Monster of Silence, then he would of killed him by now. But why didn't he? Was there something wrong with him?
Probably.
The traveller shrugs, lost in his own thoughts about Zular.
The duo's thoughts weren't far from each other's though. Zular was wondering the exact same thing: Why aren't I feeling the need to kill him, dammit! Zular growled out loud silently as he thought.
