And as the silence raged through the night as a silent storm, the stars and moonlight seemed to dim down to almost pitch black. No other light source came from anywhere to be seen. The stars and moon were failing to light up the earth again. They were failing to keep the world from going completely black.
The silence continued to eat at the only living thing traveling through the vast plain. Making him worried, and afraid. Anything could happen in the open, anything could hunt him, smell him, see him, hear his heart racing in his chest. Anything possible was legible in this darkness.
The silence isn't helping either.
Suddenly a scream was heard. It was high and shrill. Making it into sense that it was female. It was not close though, for the silence stretched on for miles. Sounds can be heard from far off distances and sound closer than intended. This world will never be the same.
The scream was suddenly cut off and the silence continued. Leaving the traveler thinking. Wondering what happened to the scream. Where did it come from, and who made it? If it was human, how was it caught? How does she not know how to stay quiet?
The traveler continued on through the darkness, dismissing the scream. He couldn't save the person now, it was too late. Even if he were there, he could not help either. The monsters of the night are too quick. Too deadly. He wasn't build to be quick, he was built for power and to last.
He continues walking through the silence, barefoot against the stones except for a bit of bandage wrapping on both his hands and feet. Used for climbing, warmth, and protection. Something every traveler needs to use on their travels. This traveler has it on his feet so he doesn't trip and fall, or risk sliding a foot.
He carries only a bag filled with few things. Food, water bottles, and a blanket. But that wouldn't help the traveler for what lies ahead. Not even close. He would need a bigger bag, and weapon.
The traveler continues to walk in it's ragged clothes. Covered as best it can. Holding only a dagger in it's hand in caution to the scream. He hasn't heard many people in the silence of the world it is now.
The world hasn't been the same since the silence took over. It's been eerie, even during the day where shadows could give off a figure. It was still terrifying. The creatures that took over have created the silence. Very few people remain, blending into the silence such as this traveler.
As the traveler continues on the sharp stone top, it's feet hardened and cracked from the miles and miles of walking in cold and hot conditions, trying to stay in the warm season. Knowing that staying in one place for too long is risky, as the silence can catch up and eat away at you even more.
The traveler gets close to a river, though it is hard to tell if it is close or not from the deafening silence. But the river is in fact near. Seeing and knowing this, as well as desperate for a drink, the traveler risks going towards noise, well aware that it is life or death doing such a thing. But to have water for a week, the traveler will risk it. Either die of thirst slowly, or quickly killed by a monster.
The traveler went to the river's edge and knelt there, taking off his bag and placing it on the ground carefully. He takes out three empty bottles of water, all the same size. He opens each and dips them in the water to fill, waiting for the sound of a twig to snap or leaf crunch to indicate that he's not alone and that he is detected.
After the first two, the traveler was sure he would have been caught by now. Everyone he has met or seen has. He slowly dips that last bottle in the water, filling it up, looking around cautiously. Waiting to be caught and have his throat slit or be ripped right in half. To join the other screams that join the night.
