They were each handed a towel, white and fluffy; Selene unfolded it and wrapped it round her body, shocked by the quality of the cotton as it touched her skin. They were escorted back up the stairs and into another room, full of beds, all of which were freshly made with crisp white sheets. Selene wanted nothing more than to lie down on one and sleep.

"Men on the left side, women on the right." The guard directed them, instructing them to dry themselves and dress in whatever they found in the cupboards. Two guards remained standing by the door as the prisoners moved about the room, drying themselves and claiming beds.

The air was stale as there were no windows in the room at all. Selene began to count the beds. There were twenty against each side of the narrow room: forty individuals in total. Quickly she began to count the women.

Twenty-One.

She had made the numbers uneven. They would notice, someone would surely notice. There was nowhere for her to sleep.

She walked to the other end of the room, creating as much distance between herself and the guards. But she was too slow; by now a woman stood at each bed. She turned her head from side to side, aware that her movements were beginning to look panicked. She was just about to dive behind a bed and beg the tongueless slaves to keep quiet when she felt hot arms around her.

The Vampire spun her round to look at him, having sped to the other end of the room faster than she could have anticipated.

"Where did you come from?" He held her shoulders, his arms outstretched before him, staring at her.

She shook her head.

"Don't pretend you can't speak. I know you can. You're one of them. Arthur's girls. How did you get down here?"

He shook her violently, pressing bruises into her upper arms. She clutched the soft towel about her; wet strands of hair snapped about her face.

"I got lost." She finally murmured.

The guard let a growl vibrate in the back of his throat and tugged at her towel, pulling it away from her and throwing it on the nearest bed. Selene once more found herself naked, but this time she knew they were all looking at her. He appraised her, running his gaze over her body, holding her arms in such a way that she could not cover herself. She saw a violent lust awaken in his gaze and thought for a moment that he would take her right there and then.

"Take this one upstairs. She doesn't belong down here," he growled, pushing her towards the guards who stood near the door. One of them moved quickly, grabbing her, and within seconds she was out of the room and up the stairs.

He dragged her back into the room with the chandeliers and called out:

"Violetta!"

His voice echoed, growing weaker and weaker as it repeated around the room.

A small Vampire opened a door in the far wall and stepped into the room. She wore a floor length dress and was obviously attired for the same black tie event that Arthur had been.

"What's going on?" she asked, moving towards them at breakneck speed. She paused before Selene and raised an eyebrow. "You know you don't take your clothes off my dear. The clients do that."

"She needs something to wear. Says she got lost, downstairs, with the tongueless ones."

"Goodness my dear, you don't want to be down there with those people. We reserve them for the most violent of our customers. Or rather, the ones that don't like the sound of screaming. Follow me," she said, and moved back across the marble floor, her purple dress fishtailing across it, sweeping behind her as she walked.
