As she stood with her clenched fists resting on the door, her head pressed between them, she was filled with a sudden certitude that Hector would be on the other side of the door. That he must have been drawn to her, as she was to him. That he would want her to come back into the room; that he was standing there staring at it, willing her to come back out.

She lowered a trembling hand to the door handle and clutched it hard. She paused a moment before turning it.

She could go out and offer herself to him, as she had done at Cadogan Place, kneeling on his bedroom floor, waiting for him to take her. Would that re-write their history though? Could everything be undone if Hector took her in his arms and kissed her?

Certainty struck her, and she felt beyond doubt that he would accept her offering. He would initiate her as should have happened all those months ago.

With this new found confidence she turned the handle and pushed the door so it swung open into the room on the other side.

But immediately she was disappointed. Hector was not standing on the otherside, willing her to open the door, staring at her with love and desire in his eyes.

In fact, he had not moved at all, and still sat in the wooden chair, his head forward, evidently propped up by hands that stabilised by elbows on knees.

Selene held her breath, aware that Hector knew she was there. When the creak of the door had announced her re-entrance into the room, she had seen a movement in the muscles of Hector's shoulders. A tightening.

"Go back to bed Selene," he said, without so much as turning his head.

But Selene, emboldened, instead of retreating moved towards him, feeling the hard concrete floor under her feet. There was a chill in the room and she could see her breath in the air, despite the fact that her temperature inside raged, boiling up and dilating all her blood vessels.

"Hector."

"Go to bed, Selene."

"But Hector," she said, her voice sounding so much like a pathetic whine that she was sorry she had spoken aloud.

Hector pushed the chair away and rose to his full height, spinning round to face her.

"What do you want?"

He looked angry, and Selene felt she had provoked him to it. She felt her body shrink, her shoulders curving inwards in her desperation to disappear.

"I thought -"

"You thought you would offer yourself to me and everything would be alright?"

His voice boomed across the room, rumbling in selene's ears. She took a step backwards.

"You thought I would want this body," he said, moving his hand up and down through the air, "that has been so completely polluted and filled with the very essence of my brother?"

Selene shuddered, all at once feeling every inch that 'worthless whore'. She pulled her arms across her body, covering herself from him.

"Please leave me alone, Selene."

He turned away from her and rested his arm on the mantelpiece over a small and blackened fireplace, staring at the wall in front.

"What will you do with him?"

"With who?"

"With Arthur."

"That depends in what form he exits your body. Or how he does it."

When Hector lowered his arm his sleeve was covered in dust and dirt from where he had leant on the shelf.

"What do you mean?"
