The bodies of the two guards who had been standing outside Arthur's chamber lay across the floor, barely recognisable as their blood pooled and their bodies turned to ash.

"Blood," he muttered as he stepped over them and kicked open the door.

He let her down and quickly bolted the door closed on the inside.

The window was open, and a fresh sea-breeze blew in, serving only to emphasize how full of pollution the room downstairs had been.

Arthur stood before Selene, his face hard as he stared at her. She felt a chill run down her spine.

"You've driven me to this, Zero. You gave me no choice."

"Stop saying that," she pleaded. "No choice in what?"

"How I took you. When I took you. There's no time now." He stepped towards her, the movement so quick and purposeful that Selene moved backwards.

But Arthur caught her. "You can't get away now."

He pulled her over to the bed and threw her body down like a sack full of fluid. She wriggled on the sheets, trying to get away from him, but the sheets slipped beneath her and she found herself unable to move as he leant over her, pinning her down, his strong arms either side of her torso.

He heaved her further up the bed, ripped off his jacket and threw it to the floor, and clambered onto the mattress and knelt, a leg on either side of her body.

"I still want you, Zero," he whispered, his breath causing the hairs on her neck to stand on end as he pressed towards her, his chin resting on her collarbone. "But I don't have time to be gentle."

Selene gasped, realising that there was no stopping him now.

He began to tear at her dress, lifting it up to expose her legs, biting at the neckline, striping away great swathes of fabric with his mouth.

She began to kick at him, despite the fact that the entire situation thrilled her. And yet she felt a fear deep within her; a fear that this could well be the end.

"I love you," he whispered as he ripped the knickers he had so gently fingered earlier in the evening.

A great banging started up on the bedroom door, but Arthur had begun to kiss her breasts, and a little disturbance wasn't going to stop him.

"Arthur Stanley, if you don't open this door we'll break it down."

Selene recognised the voice as Xander's. The banging continued, but a wave of desire washed Selene up, leaving her helpless in Arthur's arms. She couldn't even respond to the shouting from outside.

"They can't touch me," he said, as he tore away the bottom of her dress, the fingers of his free hand stroking her inner thighs, whilst his other held her arms in place above her head.

Selene inhaled his scent as he writhed above her, and she felt as though she might swoon again. He was rough, but gentle at the same time as he began to stroke her, touching parts of her body that had never been touched that way before.

She moaned; the anticipation for that long-denied climax caused her body to quiver with delight; a sensation almost too intense to withstand. She raised her hips to his, and immediately he paused to loosen his trousers.

The banging took on a more forceful tempo, unceasing, but Selene found it almost impossible to distinguish the sound from the rushing of blood in her ears. Never had she experienced something so intense; she didn't care that Xander and Virgil were outside, threatening to break down the door.

But all of a sudden, the door did crash inwards, splintering into pieces that fell onto the carpeted floor. Xander and Virgil toppled into the room, one after the other, and stood at the side of the bed, breathless.

Virgil raised his gun, pointing it at Arthur.

"Step away from the girl."

Arthur laughed, pushing himself up off the bed, straightening his arms, holding his entire weight with them, hovering over Selene, who lay, almost naked, beneath him.

And, bizarrely, all she felt towards Virgil and Xander in that moment was resentment; they were trying to take from her the thing she wanted most in the world. She didn't even care that Xander scanned her body, his jaw slack, his eyes popping with shock. Virgil, by comparison, was more composed as he observed the scene.

"You think you can stop me with that?" Arthur made to continue what he was doing, and Virgil, in a desperate attempt to stop him, let off a round of bullets; the noise cracked through the air like the slash of a whip.

Selene screamed, but once again Arthur laughed, letting the bullets fall to the floor from where he held them in his hand. He had caught each and every one of them, with a movement so fast that none of them had seen it.

"These men?" he asked, turning to Selene. "You did it for these men? You betrayed me for them?"

And then he lowered himself onto her once more, sliding his fingers towards a part of her that throbbed for him.

"Stop it," screamed Xander, throwing himself onto Arthur's back, grabbing at his hair and neck. But with one swipe of a muscled arm, Xander was propelled to the other side of the room, his body slamming into the wall, and lying slumped on the carpet.

"Do you want to try too? Or are you going to let me finish what I've already started? Can't you see the girl wants me?"

Virgil stood, his legs apart and planted to the ground, his gun still pointing at Arthur. But he looked down the barrel, rolling his eyes to meet Selene's.

"He's going to kill you," he said.

But Selene could barely hear the words, reacting only to the way Arthur continued to touch her.

"You can't stop me," said Arthur, his words buoyed by a perverse laughter. "And once I've had her and drained her blood, no one will ever be able to stop me again." He lowered his head, ignoring Virgil entirely.

Xander, still lying against the wall on the other side of the room, groaned and pressed a hand to his head.

"I can stop you."

The voice was neither Virgil's nor Xander's, and something about the tone of it made Selene glance up, causing her pleasure to retreat from the edge of climax, curling up in shame instead.

In the doorway stood the image of Arthur, dressed in an identical suit and shirt, his face similarly streaked with ash, as though he too had been in the main hall as the Vampires had died.

Selene gasped, struggling for air, realising just how breathless she really was; the shock on seeing that face standing over her, those eyes staring at her body, caused a feeling within as though her chest were caving in.

Arthur too looked towards the intruder, sliding his fingers from Selene.

"You're too late," he said, pulling Selene's hips towards him, onto him, penetrating her with a force that sent a deep pain through her body; a fire burning and slicing her innards. She screamed, but the pain wasn't over.

Arthur pulled her body up in a movement so fast she was sure she felt her spine crack, and dug his fangs into her neck, all the while pushing himself deeper inside her.

She felt her blood rise up to meet his lips, sucked with a power that made her faint.
