Words float onto the screen.
Black Water Ridge
Lost Creek, ColoradoThe screen then shows tents between the trees and birds and insects are heard. It's dark and it seems as if someone is watching the campsite.
"I already don't like this." Lily says.
Twigs are heard snapping as the figure stalks the camp growling.
Inside the tent, it shows two men playing video games.
"Dude, you're cheating." The one sitting up says.
"Nope... you just suck." The other replies laying down.
"Why is that our friendship?" Sirius asks James and Remus.
"Because you suck at everything." Remus answers back lazily and James isn't paying attention to focused on the screen.
The figure is shown growling and stepping closer towards the camp.
In the other tent one man is shown holding a phone backwards in order to record himself.
"Hey Haley, day 6. We're still out near black water ridge." The man says and behind him a shadow is shown running behind him outside the tent.
"What was that?!" Hermione asks. "Oh my, it was probably a bear... or a wolf!"
"We're fine, keeping safe, so don't worry." The man says to the phone oblivious of the shadow. "Talk to you tomorrow."
He ends the video and sends it.
In the other tent one of the men close their game and tosses it to the side.
"Hey where are you going? It's my moment of victory." The one who was winning says as the loser gets up and walks out of the tent.
"Nature calls." He says walking through the flap and zips it back up.
"I feel like something bad is about to happen..." Regulas trails off watching the screen, while many agree.
The man walks a few feet away from the tent looking around as walks before he makes it to a tree.
The figure is shown watching him, and looks down to the fire in the middle of the camp.
The man hears a limb snap looks to his left to see a bush rustling but brushes it off. He then heard it again making him look around just as something jump out at him.
"Don't just stand there!" Ron shouts.
The man screams and the scene changes to the man who sent the video message. He's shown laying down and reading when he heard the scream. The other man still playing video games flips over as he heard the scream.
"Why are they just sitting there? They heard the other one scream and they're not doing anything..." Oliver Wood calls out.
"Brad?" The one playing video games calls and the video message man sits up.
"Gary, what's going on?" Video message calls out.
"The one playing video games named Gary sits up and moves to the entrance of the tent and unzips it looking outside.
Insects are heard before a growl making Gary look up and see the thing making him scream as he's pulled from his tent.
Nearly everyone in the room jump in there seats a few even let out screams as he is snatched from the tent. They are breathing heavily watching the figure stalk the last man.
Video message hears Gary scream and quickly turns off his lantern breathing heavily.
He sees the figure going around his tent repeatedly as he turns trying to see it.
There was a slash and video message falls back screaming before the screen turns black.
"Well, I've never seen a bear act like that." Slughorn shakes his head.
"Something tells me that that wasn't a bear." James mutters shaking his head as worried as he's been since they started this damn series and it was only the beginning of the second episode.Palo Alto, California
Sam is shown in a suit carrying flowers up to a freshly dug grave. The grave has teddy bears and candles and pictures from friends and family. The grave belongs to Jessica Moore.
"I, um.." Sam starts then chuckles. "You always said roses were lame.... So, I brought you, uh..." Sam trails off looking at the small picture of Jessica attached to the headstone looking like he was trying not to cry.
"Poor baby, no one should have to go through that." Lily mutters and holds James a little closer. Not that he minded, he was thinking the same thing, he didn't know if he would survive without his Lily flower by his side all these years.
"Jess... oh god." Sam says with tears in his eyes and kneels down in front of the headstone. "I should have protected you. I should have told you the truth."
Sam lays the flowers down and a hand reaches up from the grave and grabs his wrist making him jolt awake.
Many people jumped at that not knowing it had been a dream.
After Sam woke rock music was heard playing and Dean looks at Sam worried as Carter watches him from the backseat.
"You ok?" Dean asks as Sam rubs the sleep out of his eyes.
"Yea, I'm fine." Sam answers automatically.
"Just like Hallie, neither talk about their nightmares." Remus shakes his head.
"Another nightmare?" Dean asks looking at him as if he didn't believe him and Sam clears his throat not answering. "Want to drive for a while?"
Carter furrows her eyebrows and leans between the two. "I'm sorry, I've had I don't know how many nightmares, and you've never asked me that."
Sam lets out a chuckle nodding. "In your whole life, you never once asked me that."
"Just thought you might want to. Never mind." Dean says before looking at Carter. "And you, you haven't been sleeping. At all. Nobody drives baby on no sleep."
Carter shakes her head tiredly, "except you, of course brother." She says and Dean shakes his head in exasperation.
"She looks tired. Why isn't she sleeping?" Lily asks worried.
"I don't know." James answered equally worried.
"As a matter of fact, why don't you get some shut eye and then we'll talk about you driving."
"Not tired." Carter says looking out the window as Dean looks at her through the mirror.
"Well, humor me." Dean says turning back to Sam taking a breath, he felt like his siblings were falling apart and there was nothing he could do to stop it.
"Look, man, you're worried about me. I get it, and thank you, but I'm perfectly ok." Sam says and Carter rolls her eyes in the backseat.
"Mm-hmm." Dean hums not believing him as he drives on looking in the backseat to see Carter with her head against the window looking out it.
"Alright." Sam says clearing his throat while grabbing the map from the dash. "Where are we?"
"We are just outside of Grand Junction." Dean answers him as Sam studies the map.
"You know what? Maybe we shouldn't have left Stanford so soon." Sam says shaking his head.
"Sam, we dug around there for a week. We came up with nothing. If you want to find the thing that killed Jessica..." Carter says still looking out the window.
"It's only been a week since his girlfriend died?" Molly asks in shock wondering. "Why on earth is he not grieving?"
"Got to find dad first." Sam cut her off still looking at the map.
"You're supposed to be asleep." Dean says reaching over the seat to smack her leg.
"I told you, I'm not tired." Carter says stubbornly.
"Yea, tell that to your eye bags." Dean shoots back and Carter rolls her eyes.
"Why won't she sleep?" Andromeda asks worried. "I mean I know she has nightmares, but she still needs sleep."
"Dad disappearing, and this thing showing up again after 20 years? It's no coincidence." Dean says looking at Sam before turning back to the road. "Dad will have answers. He'll know what to do."
"It's weird man." Sam says looking at the area around the red X on the map where the coordinates lead. "These coordinates he left us, this black water ridge..."
"Black water ridge? As in the same black water ridge where we just saw those 3 men get attacked and taken and/or killed? That place?" James asks with a hint a hysteria and many others follow suit having realized the connection.
"What about it?" Dean asks glancing over to the map.
"There's nothing there." Carter says moving back between the seats and Dean glances at her and looks away. He's giving up on getting her to sleep at the moment. "I noticed that too."
"Yea, it's just woods." Sam says and drops the map into his lap. "Why is he sending us to the middle of nowhere?"
"So why is the dad sending them there again? And not just talking to them?" Molly asks aloud.
The car is shown parked at a ranger station while the 3 are inside.
"So black water ridge is pretty remote." Carter says looking at the 3d map with Sam. "It's cut off by these canyons here..."
"Rough terrain, dense forest. Abandoned silver and gold mines all over the place." Sam continues leaning over the map as Dean looks at a picture hanging on the wall.
"Dudes, check out the size of this freaking bear." Dean says still looking at the picture and Carter walks up to him to see the framed picture of a huge bear.
"...and a dozen or more grizzlies in the area." Carter says looking at the picture.
"Well... it's no nature hike, that's for sure." Sirius mumbled.
"It's no nature hike... that's for sure." Carter says and turns back to Sam who's studying the map.
Sirius' face lit up like Christmas. "That was AWESOME!" He said loudly.
"No! I can't handle another Padfoot." James says shaking his head.
"Oh, you love me!" Sirius insists.
"That's debatable." James shoots back and Lily clears her throat.
"Can you 2 continue this lovers quarrel later?" Lily asks nodding her head to the screen and the 2 look at her and nod sheepishly.
"You 3 aren't planning to go out near black water ridge, by any chance?" Someone says from behind them making them all turn to face him.
"Oh, no, sir. We're environmental study majors from U.C. Boulder..." Sam lies quickly. "Just working on a paper."
"How does one come to lie with such ease?" Hermione asks in disbelief.
"Recycle, man." Dean says and fist pumps the air making Carter shake her head at him.
"Bull." The ranger says automatically making the 3 swallow nervous. "You're friends with that Haley girl, right?"
The ranger starts walking and Carter pursed her lips. "Yes." She says nodding her head as her brothers shoot her a look. "Yes, we are, ranger.... Wilkinson."
"Well, I will tell you exactly what I told her." He says to Carter. "Her brother filled out a back country permit saying he wouldn't be back from black water until the 24th. So it's not exactly a missing persons now, is it?"
Carter and Dean nod in agreement.
"Except something terrible took them. He needs to listen to her!" Lily scolds.
"Tell that girl to quit worrying." Wilkinson says and Dean nods. "I'm sure her brother's just fine."
"We will." Dean says as Wilkinson starts to walk away. "Well, that Haley girl's quite a pistol, huh?"
"That is putting it mildly." Wilkinson nods.
"Actually, you know what would help is if I could show her a copy of that backcountry permit." Dean says stepping forward. "You know, so she could see her brother's return date."
"An odd request." Remus states.
The Winchesters walk out of the rangers station with Dean holding the copy of the permit as he laughs.
"What, are you cruising for a hookup or something?" Sam asks as he walks beside his brother making Carter eye him incredulously.
"What do you mean?" Dean asks looking at Sam as they walk.
"The coordinates point to black water ridge." Sam says raising his arms. "So what are we waiting for? Let's go find dad. I mean, why even talk to this girl?"
Carter stops walking and tiredly looks at her brother in confusion. "I don't know, maybe we should know what we're walking into, before we actually walk into it."
Carter says shaking her head as if it were obvious.
"It is always better to know and be prepared if possible than the latter." Tonks agrees.
"What?" Sam asks looking between the 2.
"Since when are you all 'shoot first and ask questions later' anyway?" Dean asks him.
"Since now." Sam says with a blank face opening the car door and getting in.
"Oh really?" Dean smiles sarcastically.
"Well, that's surely not going to get us killed at all." Carter says as she too opens the door and gets in the car.
"Perhaps if they are worried about being killed, they are doing something they should not be doing." Amelia says.
Dean stands there for a moment and makes a face of agreement at his sisters words before getting in as well.
