03. Injustice.
"I tried to kill him to make justice, and look where that got me."
MY EYES WIDENED, THE ROOM SCREAMED IN AWKWARDNESS. Was I really sitting in front of a murderer? Well, she's not really a murderer if she didn't kill whoever that "him" was, right? I took a deep breath and sighed. "Who did you try to kill?" I asked her, trying to stay calm. I thought she was gonna try to kill me.
"Han Seojun, you're not scared, are you?" She snickered. "W-What? No way. You're out of your mind. You just startled me with that confession, that's all!" I furrowed my eyebrows and looked her up and down. I was actually about to pee myself, I never expected a girl to scare me like that. And she wasn't joking, like most people at school would. She was for real, she was in prison for a reason.
"How old are you, Han Seojun?" She suddenly asked, I turned my eyes to her out of surprise. Why is she asking my age? "I'm nineteen." I gulped. Damn it, why am I so scared? "Three years younger. Still too young to understand." She dared to say that to my face.
"Hey! It's not like you're some old lady! You look around the same age as me!" I spat. She only laughed at my response. "I'm twenty two, idiot. You're still a minor." She crossed her arms. "Well, how long have you been in prison?" I asked her, changing the subject.
"Three years. I'm supposed to be released sometime this year, but I don't think I will be out of here anytime soon." She stroked her hair back with her right hand. "Why do you think that?" I asked her out of curiosity, not as scared as I was before. "I've not behaved, that's it."
"What is that supposed to mean?" I asked her, I was really curious to know if that meant she had been going around hitting people or something like that. "You sound genuinely curious, Han Seojun." She chuckled and stroked her hair back again. Weirdly enough, I found that satisfying.
"Do that again." I gestured to the hand she stroked her hair with. "What?" She said, confused. "Do that thing with your hand again" I said. She did it. "It's a habit, why did you want me to do it again?" She asked in the same serious tone. "Do it again." I demanded. "You're not gonna order me around, kid!" She frowned.
'kid'
"I'm not a kid, I told you I'm nineteen!" I reminded her. "Whatever. I'm done here." She stood up. She looked back at the cops, who immediately got in position to fight, strangely. "What are they doing?" I asked. But the girl was just as confused as me. "Dunno, not like I care, either." She put her hands in her pockets, but the cops grabbed her aggresively and cuffed her as soon as she did so.
"Hey, no need to be so aggresive!" I yelled at the cops for the girl's sake. The cops and the girl were about to exit the room, I stood up and yelled "Wait!" They stopped. The girl turned her head a little to let me know she was listening. "What's your name?" I asked. "Prisoner 0122" She said in a cold, serious tone.
"What?" She really had me confused this time.
"Your name, something people outside of prison called you." I tried to make sense of the word 'name' as she just stood there and listened. "Dan. Orsetev Dan." She said, and just like that, she left with the four cops.
"Orsetev Dan" I whispered her name.
