11. The ex-convict.
DAN STOPPED, she didn't look back though. She stood there, I'm guessing she was waiting for me to speak. "Dan," I pulled her by the arm so she would look at me. "Don't touch me, Han Seojun." I could see anger through her sunglasses. She took them off with her free hand and put them in her big, black bag she was carrying. "Talk, I don't want to see you right now. So you best hurry up." She said in the same cold voice.
"What?" I was surprised. Wasn't she the one who met up with my mom and made her think we were dating? Wasn't she the one who said was going to get me after she got out of jail? "It's better for me not to see your face, so let me go. Let me go or I will make you." She threatened.
"Why are you telling me this? What's wrong with seeing my face? Aren't we friends?!" I yelled, desperate for an explanation. "Friends? Yeah right. Is that what you told everyone who asked you about me?" She looked me in the eyes with the same dead eyes. I hated how souless they were.
"Dan, what are you talking about?!" I hardened my grip on her arm, she noticed this, but didn't do anything about it. "Han Seojun, leave me alone. A suicidal maniac like me can never be friends with the highness Han Seojun is." She said in the coldest tone she's ever used and moved her arm away, giving me chills down my spine. "Dan, where are you going?" I tried to talk to her, but she wouldn't answer. She continued to walk, I followed her.
"Dan!" I yelled her name, she wouldn't stop. She was about to cross the road with the cars still passing by. Was she not seeing this? "Dan, what do you think you're doing?!" She stepped on the road, a truck was driving on that lane at the same time. The truck was about to hit her, she didn't seem to care.
I pulled her with all my strenght away from the road and pulled her in for a hug. Maybe that's what she needed? Maybe that's what I needed...? "So you are a suicidal maniac, after all..." I whispered, hugging her tighter. For some reason, this moment brought flashbacks from years ago. That girl I saved from committing suicide, the girl who was arrested right after. But all I cared about right now was Dan, and it didn't make sense.
She didn't hug me back until I tightened my grip on her clothing, pulling her closer. "What the heck were you thinking?" I said, she pulled away a little to see my face. "I guess I just wanted to get away from you and I didn't see all those cars." She said, then she went back to the same position we were. I sighed and rubbed her back, letting her know everything was fine.
"How do you expect me to leave you alone when you do stupid things like this?" It was then when I realized I always cared about her. Not in a romantic way, not likely. I was still madly in love with Jugyeong, but all the time I spent with Dan made me feel at peace with myself. And I still called her names and talked about her like that when she wasn't with me, I was too proud to admit I liked someone like her.
"Dan, I'm sorry." I apologized with true feelings, I could feel her shaking her head, letting me know her answer. It was not a clear answer, though. "Han Seojun, you should go back to that Jugyeong girl, you left her all alone..." Crap, what have I done?! I looked around to see if I saw Jugyeong, pulling away from the hug. "Im Jugyeong?!" I called her name, knowing I wouldn't get an answer.
"Just call her, you're so dumb..." Dan rolled her eyes and let out a chuckle. I decided to call her.
"Im Jugyeong!" I yelled as soon as she answered the phone. "Han Seojun, are you alright?" She asked, ignoring the fact that I had left her alone. "I should be asking you that question, I'm sorry!" I apologized, I looked at Dan to see her playing with her rings. 'silly,' I thought.
"I'm fine, we weren't so far from my house so I decided to just walk my way there. Who was that woman, by the way?" She asked about Dan. "Oh, she's an old friend. I'm sorry to have alarmed you, I didn't mean to!" I apologized once again, I can't believe I did something like that. "It's alright, how many times have I left you alone to go somewhere else?" She chuckled and reminded me of all those times I experienced.
"Many, you brat." I playfully said. "Alright, but you are home now, right?" I asked, making sure she was safe. "Yes, I'm here with my dad. Take care, I'll be going now." I could hear her smile through the phone, she hung up before I could answer. I turned to Dan, who had her arms crossed now. "She your girlfriend?" She asked. I felt my whole body burn, "She wishes!" I scoffed.
"You like her" She put her hands in her pockets and sighed. "I-I love her..." Dan's eyes widened, for some reason she looked disappointed. "You love her" I nodded, reaffirming my answer. "Nice, well good luck with that." She turned and started to walk away. "Where are you going?" I asked, she turned her head a little to let me know she was listening. "Do you live around this area?" I asked.
"Maybe," She said, continuing to walk away from me. "Do you want to get some coffee?" I said, I didn't want her to leave just yet. We had a lot to catch up on. She stopped and said, "maybe," again. I smiled, I knew she wanted to even though she acted indifferently. "Not today, it's late and it's dangerous for pretty boys to be out at night." She turned back to face me and smiled. Her smiles are never real.
I only looked at her, she said "See ya later, Seojun." She turned around and walked away. I knew I couldn't stop her, so I let her go. She said 'later,' so I assumed she lived around the area. That meant we were likely to see each other more often, since I was always hanging around the place to see Jugyeong. But why hadn't I seen her before tonight?
I watched as her figure became smaller, I wasn't expecting to meet her again. I guess I thought she was bound to stay in prison, since her behavior wasn't the best. I decided to go back home, since it was pretty late for a handsome guy like me to be out.
