Dami very carefully brought the mug to her lips and dared to take a small sip. "Ugh!" Her face scrunched up in disgust—another futile attempt of making coffee which tasted so bitter that it made her want to throw up.
What am I doing wrong? She thought while grabbing her hair out of frustration. More sugar? She shook her head at the thought for some unknown reason.
Awake at night and scheme—the lyrics of warriors by Imagine Dragons brought her back to the reality. Dami looked at the room from where the music was coming. The gym? She dumped the coffee into the sink and headed towards the gym to see who got up so early.
The female leaned her body on the doorframe. In front of her was Jimin who was so busy in lifting weights that he did not even notice when Dami came.
"I didn't know there is an alarm clock here," Dami casually said as she opened the fridge to get a beverage since her morning coffee was ruined.
Jimin abruptly looked at her, finally realising that he was not the only person in the gym. With a smile on his plump lips, he stopped the music and walked towards Dami.
"I set an alarm on my phone. Who even uses alarm clock these days, country bumpkin?"
"Hey," the brunette lightly slapped his arm which he just laughed it off, brushing his black hair that was slicked with dripping sweat, back in the process.
"You know what I meant." Dami gazed at Jimin with complaining eyes. "You never wake up until midday."
"What about you?" Jimin dodged her question like a professional. He did not want to admit that the defeat yesterday kind of disappointed him because he wanted to win and go on a date with Dami.
So he did not want to miss any future possibilities and that was why he woke up early today to build some extra muscles. "Why are you up so early?"
"I am a morning person—" Dami waved her hand, "Unlike someone." She ended it with a little glare at Jimin, in response to which he let out a chuckle.
"Also I do yoga."
"Really?" Jimin was genuinely surprised to finally get some new news about the girl he knew a long time ago who apparently had not changed much even after staying in abroad.
"Why? I can't?" She retorted with a roll of eyes. "No, it's just—" Jimin struggled, "It doesn't suit you."
Dami gasped, cracking Jimin up again.
"Wanna lift some weights?" She raised one eyebrow in response to Jimin's unexpected offer.
Dami got on her knees and grazed her fingers over the large weight. "You mean these babies?"
"No." Jimin let out a laugh. He lifted a small dumbbell and stretched his hand out for Dami to hold the weight. "These ones." With his free hand, he ruffled Dami's hair. "You are not old enough to lift those yet." He signalled the weight with his eyes which Dami thought to lift at first.
A snicker left her lips. "Oh please," she shook Jimin's teasing off and was about to grab the dumbbell from his hand. But it disappeared into someone else's fist.
"What the hell?" Dami was mad. "Didn't know you would fail even before you held it?" Jimin did not stop making jokes.
But this time, Dami did not react to him. Instead she turned to her ex boyfriend in whose hand the weight was. "What is going on with you?"
A feint but firm scoff left Jungkook's lips. His jaw tightened which clearly disturbed Dami since she was sure that Jungkook was the wrong one there. His voice, sharper than usual, disturbed her even more.
"What is wrong with you?" Jungkook placed the dumbbell on the side table and took Dami's hand. Her eyes widened at the sudden physical interaction with the person, she used to love. His large and warm hands used to comfort her once.
He showed her the band aids wrapped around her fingers because of them getting bruised earlier. "What if it had gotten worse?"
Dami realized what Jungkook was talking about. She was about to hold the dumbbell with the hand, she got hurt on. She pulled her hand away from Jungkook's hold. It did not fail to remind him of his place in her life.
"It's none of your business." Dami stormed out of the gym. Jimin kept one hand on Jungkook's shoulder. "I should have been more careful."
"No," Jungkook looked at him with eyes that Jimin knew very well to know that he was hurt. "She is right. It's none of my business, anyway."
