"How was she last night?" My mother asked me.
"She was fine, I guess. Just her usual self after a panic attack. Really out of it." I said, looking down at my coffee.
"But she knows that you're fine?" Her father asked me. She was really close with her dad. She had always been his shadow and was never a couple of rooms away from him. That made it difficult for him to get business done, but he didn't care. They loved each other, and it made me wish I had a close relationship like that with one of my parents.
"I don't think so. She acknowledged what I said before knocking out, but I doubt she will remember when she wakes up."
Nobody said anything after that. We sat in silence, reflecting on everything. Well, I was at least.
We all snapped our heads towards the sound of someone rushing down the stairs. I was the first to get up and run to them. I knew who it was. It was Jules as if she just remembered her night. Falling asleep to a panic attack causes her to lose some of her memory from the night before.
I wrap my arms around her and cup her face with my hand, "Jules! I am right here. I'm fine. No injuries. Deep breath please." We locked eyes. She heard everything I said. But there was something that was internally stopping her. "Check. I am fine."
After hearing that she let her hands roam over my body checking for any and all injuries. She let out a breath when she realized that I was fine. She wrapped her arms around my neck.
"You're fine." She says. I hum and hug her back.
We stood there for a while. I could feel her body start to ease. I picked her up and said, "You need to eat, My love."
She shook her head, whined, and tightened her arms around my neck.
"Nonnegotiable, princess. Eat up." Her dad said behind us. I walked back to the table and set Juliet on the floor. I could tell that she was about to start crying, so I moved a little more quickly. After one of her panic attacks it is hard for her to be far away from someone. And in this case just me siting down without her in my arms is replaying unwanted memories from last night. I sat down in my chair and dragged her to sit on my lap.
"I've got you, Jules. I am not going anywhere today. You're okay and I am okay. Now please make me and your father happy by eating," I whispered into her ear.
