Chapter 25 - Upcoming Challenges

The tenth day on the island arrived and many things have changed compared to the first five days. Not only was the weather worse but also the amount of events decreased drastically. The consequence of that was that the amount of water and food was kept on a minimum.

The required conditions to last ten days was very high. Accordingly there were only two people left. Today the third candidate quit the exam. The two students left were Koenji and I.

I was always aware of Koenji's physical ability and this exam just showcases how exceptional he truly was. I, on the other hand, was pretty much used to stuff like that since I was educated in the white room.

Fourteen days with little water and no food was no hurdle for me. After the fourteenth day I would probably start to feel the consequences.

Anyways, I was already on my way to my location and on the way there, an event popped up 500 meters to my south. As already mentioned, the amount of events drastically decreased thus every event was valuable. Without hesitating, I straightforwardly walked towards the event.

To my luck the only other student on this island, Koenji was already present at the stand. When I scanned him, he seemed very exhausted, he had slightly dark rings under his eyes and his presence wasn't as strong as it usually is.

A brief moment after I analyzed him, he spotted me and greeted me.

Koenji: Well if it isn't Ayanokoji-boy, honestly I'm impressed by your performance, it looks like I've underestimated you.

Ayanokoji: Thank you, you're impressive as well.

He then gazed at me and began to laugh at my comment as if I had said something ridiculous.

Koenji: Hahaha, well I am the perfect existence after all so there are no surprises there.

While Mashima was still preparing the event, both Koenji and I patiently waited for the event to start. Having waited for a few minutes I proposed Koenji a deal that would be attractive for both participating parties.

Ayanokoji: Koenji how about the loser of this competition will quit of his own accord? I don't want to drag this out any longer and I assume you're tired of it as well.

In fact that would save me a lot of time and trouble. That way we can move on from this island exam quickly and after I can plan ahead for what's coming next.

Koenji just like I expected, stared at me with a bright smile and then started to laugh.

Koenji: Hahaha you're quite interesting Ayanokoji-boy. You're indeed right, I am tired of this, so I take you up on this offer.

Fortunately he did agree to this offer and of course I would keep my end of the deal as well if I do lose. After both of us agreed on this deal, Mashima-sensei seemed to have prepared everything and was now staring at the both of us with a warm smile.

Mashima: It looks like the both of you are ready for this task. I can announce that this event is an English test. The difficulty of this English test is university level so I would be in a state of shock if either of you do well.

He then handed each of us one sheet. The time limit was twenty minutes and the total amount of points were 100. Like Mashima told us, this exam isn't made for a regular high school student. The vocabular was very complex and you had to translate complex technical terms from Japanese to English. When the time limit was over, we both handed our sheets to Mashima who instantly went to correct them.

Whilst he was correcting our sheets, his expression was perplex. Moreover he was seemingly shocked and surprised by our performance. I would assume that the average high school student would score about a 65 in such a difficult exam.
