~chapter 14: i believe in a thing called love~

~Y/N's pov~

As Dee drags both me and B/N up the stairs, I catch a glimpse of a room that I'm instantly drawn to. A room filled with different types of guitars, whether it be acoustic, electric, classical, bass and much more. There's also a drum kit in one corner, and an array of different instruments in the other corner.

"Hey Dee, do you play any instruments? You sure do have a lot of them!" I ask him, curious about the reason for a whole room to be occupied by various different music-making instruments.

"Huh? Oh not really, I tried to play the guitar once, but... well, I gave up. My dad's a music instructor though. B/N mentioned that you both play, you wanna take a look?" Dee replied, halting in the hallway.

"Hell yeah, I wanna see. You have a whole room dedicated to music? That is so awesome!" B/N states for me.

As we enter the room, the sound of the radio fills my ears, but I don't pay too much attention to it as I am awestruck at the number of instruments. They're all in pristine condition and judging by the thin layer of dust coating a couple of them they haven't been touched in a while.

"If your dad's a music instructor, I would have thought that these would be a lot more... I don't know, used?" I ask, averting my eyes towards Dee.

In my peripheral vision, I see B/N swipe a finger across the batter head of a snare drum and inspect it.

"Yeah, most things in here are kinda dusty," He supports my point.

"Well, dad usually doesn't work at home, so they barely get used. Plus, dad only really plays one guitar. His friend sto-...gave it to him when they were younger, so he holds an emotional attachment to the thing." Dee explains, "you can try one out if you'd like?"

I walk towards an orange electric guitar hung on the back wall of the room. I pick it up and pull the strap across my neck. I gently run my fingers across the neck and body of the guitar before I notice Dee plugging it into the amp. He passes me a plectrum and I make eye contact with him.

"Play something, both of you. You're both very passionate about music, I wanna hear it." Dee says to both B/N and I.

B/N takes a seat at the drums. He blows away some of the dust and picks up two mallet sticks.

"So..." he starts. "What do you wanna-"

As B/N was about to ask what we should play, a certain song came onto the radio. A song that both of us love a lot. We both know what song we're going to play.

I make eye contact with B/N for a brief second, before smirking and looking down towards the guitar and readying myself.

~Dee's pov~

B/N stops mid sentence and looks towards Y/N. She's looking at him too and begins to smirk. What Is happening? I feel endangered.

It doesn't take me long to realise that they're covering the song that just came on the radio - I believe in a thing called love.

I sit down on a stool opposite them and listen to them play. I use this time to take in certain things happening at this moment.

As the song plays on the radio, B/N is listening carefully to the melody and hitting the drums where he sees fit. He is nodding his head along to the beat and humming to the words. I'm only now realising that he was doing the same thing in detention the first time I ever spoke to him. I thought he was so weird, but now I understand.

Y/N, on the other hand, is looking in concentration towards the guitar. I can see her mumbling the words to the song, but I can't hear her over the sound of the music. Her fingers move along the frets and strings as if she's replicating the melody from the radio. She moves her other hand with such coordination, carefully plucking the strings with the black and white plectrum, making no mistakes.

The sound blaring from the amp sounds so... I don't know, enlightening? It makes me tap my feet and nod my head along with the rhythm, without me even noticing.

Fuck no...I'm turning into B/N.

How do they both play so gracefully? I can't play a single chord without catching my fingers on the wrong strings. It makes such an awful sound, but Y/N on the other hand, is making it sound amazing, while making it look easy at the same time.

I need to remind myself to ask Y/N to teach me, because there's no way I'm going back to dad for help.

I wonder how long they've been playing for? Probably a long time.

I just continue to sit and listen to them both play such a complex song with such ease.

Maybe I should apologise to Y/N for what happened on the rooftop that once. It's my fault she didn't come to school for days after all. I'm still confused at what happened though. Did I say something, or did I touch her knuckles? Either way I hurt her.

Maybe I'll do it later. I wanna enjoy this song right now.

And for the first time I'm a while, I'm genuinely smiling and I feel genuinely comfortable around someone.

Heh... I never thought I would have so much fun having friends. They're much more entertaining than Heavy I must say.
