Two cannons had already gone off and soon it would be a third, Lilliana was tracing the blade across Deja's lips, ''Such a boring face, why would someone like him ever like you. Guess we'll never know." Lilliana continued to tease, the pain then followed, but it wasn't on her mouth, it was on her cheek and there was a sudden weight all over her. It all happened so fast it wasn't until she had rolled Lilliana's limp body off her and the cannon shoot that she realized someone had killed Lilliana. There was a warm trickling down her jaw and her leg was warm but mostly numb, when Deja looked up she saw the mentor from District 12, the only living victor from 12, standing above her with a bloody axe, his free hand reached out to her, ''Come on we need to get you out of here." Deja was resiliant at first, trying to squirm away, ''Stop! We need to get out of here, it's still not safe!" He slurred slightly, "How can I trust you?" She cried, "Cato told me to protect you and considering I just killed the person who was ready to mutilate you, I'd say you don't have much choice." "I can't even move though, she got me bad." Deja said as she made a weak attempt to get up and proceeded to lay on the floor in defeat, she expected the stranger to walk off and leave her, but instead he scooped her up roughly and started running with her in his arms, five backpacks over one shoulder and multiple axes in his waistband.
Ten minutes of running and they came to a stop, Deja could smell whiskey laced in his short breaths as he put her down, "Thank you, erm?" She asked questionably as she sat, resting her back on a rock, ''Haymitch." He answered the unasked question bluntly as he searched through the backpacks, shouting in rejoice when he found a first aid kit. "There's only enough to stitch up your leg before it gets infected, we'll have to leave your cheek, I can clean up the blood but I think Cato would rather you alive and ugly rather than pretty and dead, then again, he is so shallow..." Haymitch teased, "Please can you just stitch up my leg! I think I'm going to pass out." Deja said weakly, stressed at what he had said, even if it was a joke she was suddenly even more self consious. Haymitch put some alcohol onto her cut then drunk the rest, much to Deja's horror, he then got out the needle and a long peice of thread, ''Now, let's stitch you up." His voice was slurred and Deja was scared, he wasn't drunk but he was a longshot away from sober and about to jab a needle into her leg. She didn't even feel it apart from there was no longer a breeze blowing through a large gap in her thigh, much to her relief. A cannon went off while Haymitch was halfway through stitching up her leg, they looked at each other questioningly, ''What now?" Deja asked not really expecting an answer, ''I don't know, but can you smell that?" Haymitch answered, she sniffed the air, there was definitely something in the air, it was sweet, sickeningly sweet, she could taste in her mouth and found herself suddenly really tired, ''Deja, don't close your eyes!" Haymitch called as he slumped to the ground, fighting to stay awake, "Okay." She said before in one blink, she was out cold.
When Deja came back around she was no longer in the cold arena and no longer bleeding to the brink of death, she could feel and smell the smooth grass on her cheek, she smiled as she took in the wonderful athmosphere. Then she realized where she was, her eyes snapped open and she looked around, she was in a glass box in the middle of a field, it was large and completely closed off at the top with holes to breathe. There were five other boxes like this scattered around the green field, directly in front of Deja was touseled blonde hair, Cato. His unconsious body was carelessly huddle up to fit into the box that was not large enough to give his muscles space, he shifted in his sleep but did not wake. Deja banged on the glass and called for him, after she knocked on the glass, an ear shattering siren went off. She covered here ears in a meager attempt to block out the sound. All the tributes got up and were covering their ears, some were even screaming in pain, after everyone was up the siren stopped and only then did Cato notice Deja. His heart sank when he saw the large cut across her cheek, he placed his hand on the glass looking into her eyes and she returned the gesture.
''Welcome to round 2 of the 78th Hunger Games. Three of you will move on to the final round. You are all in the middle of an island full of hidded secrets, prepare yourselves in 10..." Cato gestured for Deja to wait, panic set in, Lucus was also there with them, the beastly mentor from One, Gloss and Haymitch was there with them, she did not recognize the other one.
''9...8...7...6...5...4...3...2...1."
The glass boxes shattered on top of everyone, then the chaos started. Deja was paralysed and couldn't move, knowing one mistake would get her killed, she barely made it out alive in to first round. Cato was by her side in seconds, only then did he manage to get a good look at the damage that had been done to her, the cut of her face was much deeper close up but it had been cleaned, also her thigh was cut open and her trousers were torn from were whatever done it to her had sliced her. ''Deja come on we need to get out of here." He forced her arm around his neck and supported her by her waist with his other arm. "Wait, we need Haymitch, he helped me, we can't leave him." Deja protested and Cato sighed in defeat, she was right, even though he was enraged at the fact Deja had been hurt. "I guess you're right, can you even see him?" Before Deja could answer she heard their names being called, "Oi, you two, Cato! Deja! This way!" They saw Haymitch signalling for them to go to him, he was standing at the entrance of a passageway, "You sure about this?" Cato asked, Deja nodded without hesitation and he lead them to Haymitch, half carrying Deja.
"Did anyone follow you? " Haymitch asked when they go to end of the passage way which took them to a beach covered in plam trees and large sand domes. "I don't think so, but we need to work out what the hell we're going to do! I told you to keep her safe! How is her nearly losing half a leg safe!" Cato started shouting, "Cato it wasn't his fault, it was the girl from One, don't blame Haymitch, he done the best he could." Deja argued, Cato dropped Deja to the floor in uncontrolable anger, "Fine then, if he's so amazing, he can look after you while I go find something that will actually keep us alive! Just stay here! Or leave with him! I don't even care anymore!" Cato stormed off as Deja called out for him, trying to get up and run to him but just ended up falling to the floor, Cato didn't dare look back, knowing the look on her face would break his heart, he needed to get his thoughts together and he couldn't think with that girl around him.
