I'm sure we will have questions that need answered! As we're just starting out, we're going to cover some of the basics and if you have a question that isn't included - let us know. We will then add it here for future viewing. We want to make sure everyone is on the same page to prevent any possible confusion.

Do you only accept poetry?

Yes! In the future, we may expand our horizons, but the name of the game here is poetry. We want to give more attention to the poets here on Wattpad because I feel as though it is lacking.

What is the theme of The in the Trees Awards?

There is no solid theme! We are looking for fresh poets who paint the world in a way only they can. You can truly write about whatever comes to you as long as it matches the prompt of the month. We love raw emotion and want to especially support young writers or poets with a small audience so that we can give them more exposure. However, if you already have a large following, you are also welcomed to make a submission.

Do you accept mature content?

Yes, to an extent! Our contest is open to everyone, but we want to acknowledge the presence of young writers so here is what we ask of you: send all mature entries to us in our messages for a private reading but comment on the page of the prompt with your username and password and then simply state the poem is mature and in our inbox. This makes sure no young writer is exposed to explicit content. Links are allowed. Please specify what prompt you are using so we can make sure you're up to date and following the current prompt.

We want to note that no offensive material will be considered. What is offensive material? If you are trying to invalidate a group of people, that is unacceptable. We want this to be a kind and supportive environment where everyone is welcome. We accept that sometimes emotions aren't so pretty so poems of anger or frustration are absolutely fine. Poems about trauma are also acceptable and we are honored that you would share those sensitive topics with us. Your story is not offensive, what happened to you and your feelings are always nurtured here. We just don't accept any hateful content or content that promotes dangerous thoughts or actions. Topics of sexuality or sex are allowed, just don't be crude. If you're unsure about the subject matter of your poem, contact us.

How do I submit my poem?

If your material isn't mature, you will comment your username, password, and poem of choice in the comments of the page with the current prompt. If your poem is too long, follow the above instructions for mature writers and instead let us know your poem can't fit in the comments. The same applies to those who feel uncomfortable with their poems being in the comments, just make the basic comment on the prompt with your username and password and let us know your entry will be in our inbox and why it will be. This lets us properly sort your entries.

What is the password?

To clarify, we are not asking for your account password. This is to ensure you have read our rules and FAQ. The password is your favorite poet's name. For example, mine would be Emily Dickinson.

Can I submit multiple poems?

No, unfortunately! You can have one poem per submission.

Is there a word limit or minimum?

No, there is not! We welcome poems of all shapes and sizes.

How many submissions are needed for the contest?

We are aiming for at least 5 and 30 max.

How often are the contests?

They happen monthly! Each month we will have a new, unique, and possibly challenging prompt for you to take a crack at. Hopefully in that time frame, we will have the submissions needed for the contest to continue. If not, we will update you and expand the prompt's time.

What are the rewards?

I'm glad you asked! For now, the grand prize will get recognition by featuring you in this very book and interviewing you about your poem which will be displayed in a new book. You will be followed by this account. A poetry book of your choice will be added to our reading list, and we'll send you a pdf to print out a certificate for the achievement and a custom book sticker. If desired, you can be featured in our poetry collection, Neck of the Woods as well.

For the honorable mentions, of which there will be two, you will get recognition by having your username also featured in this book with the title of your poem. You will get a follow from this account and also get one of your poetry books added to our reading list.

In the future, I'd love to include gift cards or small gifts. I could add a way to donate so that we can give our winners proper rewards to encourage their writing. For now, however, it's mostly recognition and bragging rights!

For reoccurring winners, the rewards are limited but we can offer voting on your work.

Can I withdraw my submission?

Absolutely, just send us a message!

Do we have to follow the prompt?

Yes, to be considered for the awards you would have to follow the prompt. However, we do plan to have some open-ended contests where you can write about whatever your heart desires.
