I woke from what I guess you could call sleep, hearing whimpers and quiet pleadings coming from the room across from mine. Mikey was having another nightmare. I scrubbed at my eyes for a moment and slid my mask on, hopping up silently to go check on our youngest brother. If we're being honest here, I checked on him because I love him. Yes, of course in the brotherly way, but...I guess over the years, it's grown to be quite a bit more. The orange masked prankster has managed to get far enough under my skin to worm his way into my heart, and damned if I didn't make sure he was okay.
"Mikey?" I murmured quietly, closing his door behind me. "Mikey, you gotta wake up." Shaking his shoulders didn't work. I stood back and watched him squirm as he slept, his pleads getting louder.
"N...no! No! Please, anyone but him! Just....let 'im go! .........kill me.........not him..." He cried softly, tears streaming down his tear strained cheeks, and a few left my own eyes as I watched my little brother's pain. "No....No! R.....Raph! Please, no, let him go!.........No! I.......I love you! Raph!.......No!" He screamed in his sleep, bolting up in a cold sweat. I was literally crying like a little baby, wiping away tears before risking everything and pulling him into a tight hug. He wrapped his arms around me, as well, not noticing whom it was.
"It's a'ight, Mike. Ssh, I promise, I'm right 'ere." I murmured softly, rubbing the base of his neck.
"They were gonna kill you..." He sobbed into my neck as I rocked us back and forth.
"C'mon, Mikey, they can't kill me. I'm too tough for all that." A few seconds after I said that, he stiffened. Most likely realizing what he had done, he sat back, his cheeks flushed as he tried to scramble away. I grabbed his wrist and stopped him, pulling him back to me and pressing a kiss to his forehead. "I love you too, Mike." I murmured quietly. Instantly, he stopped trying to fight against me, his whole body sagging as he leaned towards me, his usual mischievous innocence replaced by a seriousness that was rare with our youngest brother. His head lay on my shoulder and his arms around my waist. "I'm sorry I'm always so rough on you...I just don't know how to deal with you sometimes, and it irritates me, so I take it out physically." I admitted, playing with the lip of his shell.
"It's okay. I kind of bring it on myself with all the pranks." He joked quietly, snuggling into my lap. I half him for what seemed like hours before I decided I should probably go. He didn't budge when I shifted, but when I made to stand up, he grabbed my wrist.
"No....stay with me?" He asked childishly, a smile on his face. So I did. The whole night.
It was blissful.
