The boys both looked at her and shrugged.
"We just feel like doing it." Josh smirked. Nala looked up at them, pure fear in her eyes now. They could both see it, and Jackson actually felt bad.
'What am I doing?' He thought to himself as he was filled with regret.
"No we don't." He said aloud. Josh and Nala looked at him, confused. "I'm sorry." Jackson said as he offered his hand to help her up. Josh just scoffed.
"What are you talking about? She's a loser!" He shouted as he forced Jackson to look at him. Nala just sat there confused.
"We don't even know her. We didn't even give her a chance." Jackson said. Josh started to get angry, and shoved Jackson to the ground as well. Before either of them could react. Josh gripped Nala by her hair, and pulled her up. She yelped in pain. Then, without thinking, Josh shoved her backwards, and she fell into the fountain. Now she was soaked, and shivering. Josh quickly ran away, as Jackson got up, and helped Nala up.
"Th-th-thanks." She shivered. Though, she was confused. Why did he all of a sudden change his mind, and help her? He just nodded.
"Again, I'm sorry. I don't know what I was thinking, and I hope we can be friends." He said, genuinely. Nala seemed to forgive him, and brushed off her clothes.
'Great first day.' She thought to herself as she picked up her bag, only for Jackson to snatch it away from her.
"Here, let me carry it. We wouldn't want all of your work to get wet, right?" He offered. At first Nala thought he was bluffing, but she allowed him to carry her stuff. "So, where do you live?" Jackson asked, trying to start small talk.
"Oh, I live with my, um, dads, I guess."
"What do you mean, 'You guess'?"
"Well, they adopted me, just a few weeks ago."
"If you don't mind me asking," Nala gave him a 'Go ahead' look. "What happened to your parents?"
"They were murdered." Nala said plainly, however Jackson let out a quiet gasp. Jackson walked awkwardly until they got to Nala's house.
"Well, I'll see you tomorrow?" Jackson said in a questioning manner. Nala nodded. "Oh, and again, I'm really sorry."
"It's alright. Really." Nala smiled at him. "I'm used to it." She muttered. Jackson heard her statement, but didn't want to say anything. Nala left Jackson and walked inside. She was home alone, other than Hitoshi.
