Instant Ice Sculpture Weather

Camp was really far up north so winter was instant ice sculpture weather. Doesn't make training any easier so we don't train. Yay no training! We still scoop snow and other stuff. I was enjoying my 'that girl' moment sipping tea in front of the window with a light snow. Suddenly Arin barged in holding firewood and books. "Hello Kendra, I have the firewood and the kindling."

"Where's the kindling?"

"The books, they're my chemistry and algebra books."

"Why would you burn those?"

"You know how people say words don't hurt?"

"Yeah."

"Unless it's when you're being whacked in the head by a dictionary or having to read these three inch books, that saying doesn't apply."

"Why would you be whacked in the head by a dictionary?" Aspen said, poking his head out of the door.

Arin proceeds to tell us how he insulted some reading nerd which ended in 'said reading nerd' attacking Arin with a dictionary. Aspen laughed the entire time like a hyena. "Bro, chill."

"Kendra, do you know what boys are like?"

"Yeah, Kendra. We're never chill."

"If Arin fell asleep on the beach in the sun, I'd be drawing with the sun lotion."

"Our backs are a blank canvas." Arin said, lifting his shirt up. I mentally facepalm, laughing the entire time. He pulled it back down while we all laughed. Croix burst into sending quite the draft into the room. "Guys! It's been 30 minutes since we called you guys for lunch."

"Sorry, we lost track of time."

"You really did."

"Yeah, we told stories."

"Aspen?"

"Yeah?"

"Put your shirt back on." He laughed timidly and slipped on his shirt. "The winter is suspiciously cold and strong." Aspen and I hadn't been here for any past winters. This was our first one at camp. "It is, concerning actually." Arin said, looking at the strong snow. "It shouldn't be this cold and it should still be a flurry. Not a full on snow shower." Aspen looked around. "Maybe it's the direction of the wind, bring the snow clouds here." Croix nodded and picked up a ruler she placed in the snow. "C'mon, they have soup."

"Race you there." Arin was already running when Cara stopped him. "Arin? You, Kendra and Croix have been assigned a quest."

"It won't kill me like last time will it?"

"No, it's just to fetch a half-blood."

"Where is he or she?"

"Connecticut."

"Okay, so we just have to get said half-blood and bring her here."

"She's 13 years old." Cara pulled me away. Arin and Croix left to go eat while I was stuck talking with the camp druid. "She's a daughter of Morrigan." The earth seemed to stop moving and everything just froze.

I stared at her in shock. But I remember just a few months prior to this Mark said he had another sister. "Really?" She nodded and gave me a map to her address. "Get going." Get going and skip breakfast, no chance. I grabbed the map and walked back to the Eating Hall. Arin and Croix were eating breakfast spelling words with alphabet soup. "Dswrvx?" I stared at the jumble of letters in Arin's soup. "Nope, it says; papers."

"Wow, is this the new kind of dyslexia?" I said sarcastically. "No, he's just being weird." Croix said looking at her phone. Arin stood up seeing a map in my hand. "I guess Cara told you." I nodded slowly. "No surprise, living that close to one of the entrances to Tír Na Anam, 'course you'd run into Morrigan." He said, throwing his hands in the air. "Ugh, so many people are talking about how Fomorians are terrorist attacks or natural disasters. What do I say to that?"

"Get therapy?"

"You're hallucinating." Croix stared at us with that 'you really said that didn't you' look. "Eh, we try." I say grabbing a doughnut. "Didn't I say get going?!" Cara walked up behind me causing me to drop my doughnut. It was a honey-glazed doughnut and for anyone who doesn't appreciate those doughnuts, they need to eat them for the rest of their lives until they like them. "My doughnut."

"Too bad, get going."

"My-my doughnut."

"Deal with it and get ready for your quest." Cue the whining over me dropping a doughnut. "Oh shut up." Croix said, dragging me back to my cabin. "Change, you lack discipline."

"YOU SOUND LIKE MY DAD!"

"Good, change now Kendra Waters." I sat down on the couch pulling out the TV remote. "Kendra Diana Waters, get up and get out in 5 minutes." You know you're in trouble when they say your middle name. I changed into pants and a Danu cabin shirt. Pre-order at justkiddingthesearen'tforsale.com. I pulled on some extra layers and stepped out. "I'm ready, mom." I looked to my left and saw my actual mom standing there. "Oh shizz, sorry mom I didn't mean that."

"Yes, I figured that out."

"Why are you here? Don't you have goddessly things to do?"

"Yes, but I want to make time for you."

"And not for me apparently." Aspen said, holding a cup of hot chocolate. "This concerns your half-sister." I looked down at my feet. "Kendra, Claudia has been through a lot, try not to annoy her."

"Tell that to Arin." I said jokingly pointing at him. She laughed and disappeared.

After that we stood at the edge of the camp border. "So, get demigod and then leave before Morrigan tries to murder us." Arin said, rubbing his hands together. "We. Need A. Car." I said, clapping my hands between each word. "I'll just call my mom for a horse y'know." Croix said. Her mother was Epona, goddess of horses. I had met her a few months ago to help clean out a stable in South Dakota. "Guess what?" Arin said to me while Croix called for her mom. "I brought something." I rolled my eyes. "What did you bring now?"

"Hard-boiled eggs."

"Wow."

"I know right, they're seasoned to perfection by Atsuko."

"So she made them?"

"The style you get in ramen." He said, wiggling his eyebrows. "Croix, my daughter." We both turned around to see Epona on her white horse. "Hello Lady Epon- ahh."

"No need to emphasize the 'a'"

"You're so radiant." She laughed. "Thank you dear."
