I sat alone in my tent. I had a special Scrying Mirror, I used spells to make it. I picked it up and thought for my mom. Show me my mom, please. The mirror glowed white and there was my mom, Lugh and Epona. My mom held Epona in her arms and Lugh talked to both of them. Epona was in tears and my mom- she looked furious. "Her daughter died! Now you suggest we send the rest of our children into war?! I refuse!"
"Danu, we need warriors."
"Then summon them Lugh, summon them!"
"Our children-"
"Aren't immortal."
"I know."
"Because of this Epona had to watch her daughter die."
"Danu, please."
"No, Kendra and Aspen will not be sent into war."
I was shocked, it was the plan all along. Sending us into this sick war, to just fight till our deaths. I closed the Scrying Mirror. "This is what they want, all along." I sat up. "Mom." I raced to the river. Mom, please come. I need help. In a glowing light, my mom was there, she wasn't as radiant as Epona but she was glowing. "Hi, mom."
"You called?"
"How is Epona?"
"Oh, not doing well. She hadn't eaten in ages."
"She should."
"How can she, she lost her daughter Kendra. If I lost you, I don't know what I would do. I'd be heartbroken." She looked into the distance. "Just be there for the ones who were close to her." She turned to disappear. "Mom?"
"Yes?"
"Will- will I be a good hero?"
"Of course, you will."
"Will I make Croix proud?"
"She was always proud of you, you just never noticed." My mom turned around and disappeared. "Is she?" I turned back on my heels. "WAIT! MOM!" She appeared again. "Yes?"
"Was Croix happy?" She froze. I asked again. "Was she happy?"
"I don't know. I must go now. Goodbye, be safe." Like that, she was gone again. "Wow, that's great advice, if that can even be called advice."
I turned around and laid down in my tent. Silent tears flowed. That sound you make to stop crying that makes it obvious you're crying? I couldn't stop making that sound. I wiped my tears and tried to smile, but every time it would cause more tears to fall. "It's fine, you're fine," I repeated it quietly. I don't know what was more stupid, trying to smile or making up dumb lies to make myself feel better. The tent flap opened slightly and I piled blankets on myself. "Kendra, you're a terrible liar."
"And you're a jerk."
"What? No. It's your friendly neighbour Arin."
"Oh, sorry. I thought you were Mark."
"What did he do?"
"He acted so rude to Cynthia just because he wasn't close to Croix."
"Oof."
"Yeah, I just- don't get it."
"Did you cry?"
"I didn't, just go."
"You did."
"Why would you just assume that?"
"You always cry."
"I don't."
"You always lie to yourself." Fresh tears fell again. I clenched my fists tightly. "Stop it." I sobbed quietly. Arin hugged me tightly. "I don't know why I can't stop." I choked out. "Don't lie to yourself, it'll only make it worse." I sobbed. "Croix wasn't happy, she wasn't happy and that's why she died." He held me tighter. "I know."
I cried for hours, I even felt bad for keeping Arin up that long. "Go to bed, Arin."
"Not until you stop crying." I wiped my tears. "There, I'm not crying." He hugged me one more time before turning around. I know I just said I was fine so he would leave me alone. I picked up the last pack of pills for vertigo I had and swallowed one. "I'm gonna need a new pack." I opened the Scrying Mirror and saw my mom and Lugh fighting. "No more half-bloods will be sent into this war!"
"We have other concerns, keeping our truce with the Fír Bolg."
"The children can do that, we can fight the Fomorians."
"No!"
"We've done it before, we can do it again."
"Enough of this." Nuada came out holding his sword. "Lugh, I agree with Danu that the half-bloods don't deserve this treatment but please we need more warriors." I pulled out raisin snacks. "Enough of all of this. It's useless to fight over this. We know Balor will rise, we should've known.""Balor the Bale Eye, king of Fomorians."
"He can't rise without his eye."
"Someone will bring him his eye, Brigid gave me a prophecy about it." I thought of the letter we had found, a traitor among us. I stood up and slowly walked to Claudia's tent. "HALF-BLOODS!" A giant with a club- oh wait. It was a Fomorian- Fomorian that tried to kill me when I was going to camp, yeah that one. He sucks by the way. "Oh no. HELP!" Arin stepped out holding his sword. "Wha?" He looked up at the Fomori holding its club. "Oh jeez dang it, how'd he find us again?"
"I don't know."
"What do you mean 'again'?" Cynthia asked in hysterics. Zane hid in a tree, hugging his knees. "He was the Fomori that tried to kill me, Arin, and Aspen."
"Oh, that's sad."
"Just help us please you weirdo."
"Sheesh." I charged at the Fomori head-on. Arin set mounds of dirt at it. "YOU LOOK WORSE THAN LAST TIME!" It turned at me. "What is that thing?" Claudia hid in the treeline with Zane. "A Fomori. They've been alive far longer than the gods and goddesses."
"THOSE ARE THE THINGS WE'RE UP AGAINST IF WE FIGHT IN THIS WAR?"
"Yeah." Claudia threw her sword at its eye. It was blinded, just not enough. I swung my sword, tearing a large gash in its arm. Claudia retrieved her sword and took position again. Arin lunged at it and... (this is gonna be weird)
Cut off the Fomori's head which caused it to dissolve into dust.
