I walk off the plane, exhausted but also excited. None of my friends from middle school know I'm coming back to my hometown. Not my ex boyfriend, ex bestfriend, ex no one. My stepmother was becoming unbearable to live with after treating me like a peasant this whole year (I'm 16 now) and I only tolerated it for my dad, however I just couldn't take it anymore and decided to come back.
As I step outside after going through all the security and getting my luggage, I take out my cell phone to call my mom. "Adele!" a man shouts my name, and I whip my head around to look at who it might be. Him, great. Rowan, my mom, had sent my stepfather to get me. I really did not want to meet him alone, but I guess my choice has been made for me.
"Good to finally meet you too, Richardson," I reply, stepping into his car. It's luxurious one, no wonder my mom married him. A sudden mumble comes from the back seat, and I turn around coming face to face with a decently hot guy. "You said something?" I ask. "No, no. Umm.. I'm Corey, it's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Brendan's bestfriend, he's your stepbrother," the messy-hair guy responds. "Nice. Already have one person dreading meeting me. But it's great to meet you. My name's Adele," I say with a flirtatious smile at the end. I buckle in my seat belt and put in my headphones, ready to take a nap as soon as I get home.
Home... that's where I thought I was going. Instead, the car swerved through a neighborhood with expensive houses until it stopped in the driveway of a freaking mansion. My jaw drops, I'm awestruck. "You coming, or what?" Corey asks, stepping outside. We hurry inside where I am greeted by another tall guy who also looks to be my age. "Well hello there, step sis," he says and I nod in acknowledgement of his presence. "You're finally home, sweetheart," a kind, gentle voice says from above me. My mom walks down the long staircase and we all go to the kitchen to eat supper.
After we all finish eating, Corey takes my luggage upstairs and shows me my room. As I walk close behind him trying not to get lost in these halls, I trip over a rug as at the same time Corey decides to come to a sudden halt. We fall, and I stand quickly and awkwardly. "I'm so so sorry, I didn't mean to-" my apology is interrupted by laughter. "Are you alright?" Corey asks as he catches his breath. "Yes, yes.. I am," I answer him as we walk into my new room.
"This is amazing!" I say as I sit on the queen sized bed across from my own bathroom's door. I lie down and close my eyes, happy to get some rest. Something, someone's lips, then press against mine and I feel a body on top of my own. He then rolls over and lies next to me. "What was that for, Corey?" I ask smugly. "Just a little welcome home present" he says with a smirk and gets up. "Get some rest, you're probably jet lagged," Corey states walking out into the hallway.
I fall asleep with a small smile on my face. So what if I've been forgotten? I can always meet new and better people. It might not be so bad here after all, I thought right before drifting off into a dreamless sleep.
