Later that night, Rikki gets a text from Cleo:
There are rumours spreading that Emma broke up with Ash. I can't reach her, she's not answering calls. Just thought I'd let you know xx
Could this be true? Rikki tries calling Emma but it goes straight to voicemail.
The next day Rikki is packing her textbooks into her locker. It is lunch break and she's agreed to meet the girls and Lewis at the cafeteria. But when she slams the door shut she can see Cleo standing with a huge smile on her face and her green eyes are as wide as Disney princesses with joy and excitement.
"What's going on?"-asks Rikki, confused about the whole situation.
Cleo who was standing with one hand behind her back, reveals that she is holding a pink carnation. She hands the flower to Rikki then mischievously says:
"Weren't you just heading towards the cafeteria?"
They continue walking and around the next bend in the corridor, Lewis approaches her and hands her another carnation. As they continue walking Zane gives her a flower as well, with a knowing smile. The next person to give a carnation is Ash, and he is smiling as brightly as ever. Many friends and acquaintances hand Rikki flowers on the way to the cafeteria. As Rikki enters, she spots Emma instantly who is holding a sign with elegantly crafted blue letters in glitter that say "Prom?" By now Rikki has a bouquet of flowers and she quickly hands them to Cleo as she runs towards Emma. The other girl flung the sign away as she saw her approaching and by the time she got there Emma embraced her in both arms.
"I'm not ashamed, Rikki! Not anymore, I promise. Will you go to prom with me? I'm so sor-"
"Shut up you fool"- and Rikki pressed her lips against Emma's and they kissed in front of the entire cafeteria. Some people started clapping and cheering, some just stared in shock.
They broke away, slightly out of breath.
"So is that a yes?"- Emma asked smiling.
"Yes"- Rikki replied.
She hasn't felt this happy in a long time.
