Prom

Rikki is adding a last touch of red lipstick to her lips when Cleo shouts from downstairs:
"Come on, our dates are here!"
Rikki rushes down the steps to see Lewis and Emma standing at the Setori's front door. Cleo and Lewis embrace each other and he slides a corsage with purple flowers onto her wrist. But her gaze doesn't linger too long on them because Emma is there, looking as stunning as a real life princess in her mint green dress.
"Hi baby, you're looking beautiful!"- Emma says as her eyes scan her girlfriend from head to toe. Rikki is wearing a tomato red dress with a slit that shows her left thigh.
"Just like you."- Rikki says with a smile and kisses Emma's hand as if she were an actual princess and Rikki her suitor.
Emma giggles and gives her a beautiful corsage with red flowers.
"Oh I almost forgot" Rikki hurries to her bag and fishes for the blue and white corsage she brought Emma.
"Here you go"- she gently ties the ribbon on Emma's wrist to secure the small bouquet.
Cleo's dad appears with a camera.
"Can I get a picture, kids?"
The two couples pair up and smile for the picture.
"We should get going, the limousine is waiting."-Emma said after Mr Setori took what must be at least fifty pictures.
"Limousine??!"-Rikki and Cleo both exclaimed at the same time.
"Say thanks to Emma's dad for renting one for the occasion"- said Lewis with a wink.
They went outside and got in the limo which drove them to the school.
The gymnasium was decorated by the prom committee and the fairy lights made the place look quite magical, despite the faint smell of sweat that lingered.
They had a blast! Everyone all dressed up and dancing. There was a sort of feeling that only occurred at high school proms, even though they were a bit tacky and cheesy.
You and Me by Lifehouse came on. Rikki and Emma started slowly swaying to the music. Rikki looked into Emma's blue eyes and couldn't believe that this was happening. That they were at prom, together. That they were out. Rikki smiled at Emma who smiled right back at her and gave a playful squeeze to her shoulders where her hands were resting. She slid her arms around Rikki's neck and pressed their foreheads together.
There were a lot of things in the world that could trouble Rikki, but in this moment she felt completely at peace.
At last, things weren't so complicated anymore.
