Chapter 1- Team leader

[Month of November; IREN & co.]

It was the month of November and according to the meteorological department, the snowfall this year will be late compared to the previous years. Even though the weather outside was chilly, the cafeteria was warm enough for a perfect cup of coffee. Fixing my overcoat, I took a sip of my warm coffee with a smile spread across my face. My name is Lee Y/n, I work at 'IREN & co.' which is one of the leading cosmetic companies in Korea. I've been working here for 4 years and not to mention, it is my dream job as well.

"Ms. Y/n!" And of course, happiness is short-lived. The voice echoed through the cafeteria and the building as well I guess? Everyone in the cafeteria already looked frightened and gave me sympathetic looks.

"Not before my coffee" I mumbled taking one last sip and getting off my seat leaving my precious unfinished coffee on the table. 

"Y/n... my precious hubae" Seol-A said walking toward me

"Y/n sunbae" Joon-woo said 

"Guys... don't worry... I've chosen this path... this is my faith" I replied putting my hands on their shoulders and giving them a confident expression

"If you somehow survive... and you don't have to work overtime... then both of us will treat you!"

"Thanks, I really needed that. Wish me luck!" That was the last thing I said before walking inside the elevator. As the doors closed behind me and the elevator started going up, my confidence level started decreasing. The elevator stopped on the 26th floor. With hesitating steps, I walked out of the elevator and stood in front of his cabin. It felt as if it was more chilly here compared to the outside for some reason.

"I'm already late... should I apologize first? No, then I'm dead for sure... but I'll be dead anyway" I mumbled debating whether to knock on the door or not

"I know you are outside so just get in" I heard him say

'How does he know that every time?!?!'

I slowly opened the door, walked in, and closed the door behind me and there he was, leaning on his chair with arms crossed, and there laid my proposal in front of him, on the table fortunately not the ground this time. His head of slightly tilted as he looked at me with a piercing gaze. He had his hair styled neatly and his tie hung around his neck loosely. He is Jeong Jaehyun, my direct supervisor and also the team leader of team 2 in which I also work

"Team leader..." He cut me off by saying

"Ms. Y/n... your proposal is perfect..."

"Really-"

"... to completely lower our stock prices" Right, I'm dead now!

"Ms. Y/n... how about you rewrite this proposal till I approve it?" He said 

"Does that mean-"

"Yes, you can't go home before you finish it"

[Time skip: 9:30 pm]

The office was starting to get empty as everyone started heading home. Of course, who wants to stay out on a chilly winter night rather than being with their family. My eyes landed on the photo frame on my desk which had a picture of me and my two brothers. A smile spread across my face as I decided to finish the work fast and go home!

"Sunbae! Here is your 5th cup of coffee" Joon-woo said handing me over the coffee

"Thank you Joon-woo, I needed that," I said 

"Y/n, we are leaving. You'll be okay right?" Seol-A asked out of concern

"Don't worry, it's not the first time" I replied with a smile. Soon they left as well and the room was once again empty. I looked out of the glass window and the city shined with lights. My eyes landed on a girl standing on the street just when I saw a man coming toward her and they engulfed each other in a warm hug. 

"It must feel good to date someone. Anyway, Y/n! Let's finish this first and go home!"

Jaehyun's POV:

Finally, I can go home after an exhausting day at work! I usually took the stairs after work for a better health. I think I'm the last one to leave the office. I walked down the stairs when something caught my eyes. The lights in the room of team 2 were still on. 

"Did they leave the lights on? Aish, my team is so careless" I was about to switch the lights off when I saw someone sitting on the chair and working. I thought everyone had left. I took a step forward to get a close look on the person. My eyes slightly widened when I realized who it was.

"Isn't that Ms. Y/n? Is she still working on her proposal? I thought she was done with it after I saw her being all energetic during lunch break" I mumbled. I looked at my watch and it was past 10:30 pm by now

"It's pretty late"

[Time skip: 11 pm]

Shutting down the laptop, I let out a squeal of excitement and wiggled in my chair. Finally I'm done with the proposal! I can't wait for tomorrow so that I can slam this proposal right on his face! But I'll directly loose my job then.... plan cancelled. Arranging my stuffs, I picked my bag and closed the door behind me after switching off the lights. 

I stood in front of the company waiting for a ride when a black car stopped in front of me. The windows rolled down and there he was... team leader!

"Team-m leader?" I stuttered not believing what I am seeing

"Get in" He said

"No but wait-t... what are you-u doing here? Didn't-t you be at your-r home by now?" I asked

"I had some work... now get in... I'll drop you home" He said

"No, I can't trouble you with that... what if you make me work overnight tomorrow as well?" I mumbled the last part

"Ms. Y/n, just get in. It's late and I doubt if you'll get a ride also, it's not safe" He said opening the door as I finally gave in and took on the passenger seat next to him. Securing the seatbelt, I closed the door behind me

"Thank you, team leader" I said cheerfully as I was happy to which he hummed in response and started driving. The ride was silent and the silence was a bit suffocating which I decided to break

"Umm... Team leader... could I ask you something?" I questioned

"What is it?" He replied 

"It's not just me but everyone has noticed this... you always scold me and make me work overtime but you don't do it with others, why is that?"

"Because I want you to be perfect so that no one can look down on you..."
