Baaa... The lamb snuggled closer to David as he ran his hands through its fur, humming the song that was stuck in his head, as he looked over his father's sheep that were in his care.
Leaves rustled. The lamb's mama darted out. A lion leaped out with a sheep in its mouth.
Instantly, the boy was on his feet, with his sling in hand. As the lion leaped at him, he slung a smooth stone, hitting the lion squarely in between its eyes. The lion fell, dead as it hit the ground.
Cooing, little David pried the traumatized sheep out of the dead lion's jaws and ran his hand through the thick wool, calming the poor fella.
He may be just a little shepherd boy, but his God, his constant companion and protector is more powerful than anything he might ever face.

From a distance, the champion of the Philistines towered over both armies. His thunderous roar caused seasoned warriors to cower, "I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together."
The deal sounded reasonable. If Goliath kills Israel's representative, the Israelites serve the Philistines. If the Israelite kills Goliath, the Philistines serve the Israelites.
A youth stepped forward, too small for the armour that was given to him. Instead of the too heavy sword, he brought a sling and five smooth stones that he picked from a brook.
Shocked silence followed by peals of laughter when the Philistines realised that this shepherd boy was Israel's answer to Goliath.
"You come to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied," said David as the youth and the giant charged towards each other.
A stone flew from David's sling and sank into Goliath's forehead. The giant collapsed dead.
