I'm Unworthy

I stand before the throne of the Holy God. It's my turn now. My knees feel like jelly. I try to hide my shaky hands behind my back.

The guy before me was a humanitarian who did so much to benefit mankind.

He was so certain he would make it to heaven on his own, yet when the books were opened and every single detail of his life read out, his hidden sin was exposed.

It's not a matter of doing enough good to outweigh your bad. Any sin, no matter how trivial, gets the eternal death in fire sentence.

The book of Life did not have his name as in his lifetime, he refused to accept the  pardon the Lamb of God paid for him with His very own blood and life.

That man, a million times better than I could ever be, was cast into the lake of fire.

He's not the only one. Other men and women I admired who led exemplary lives compared to my shameful, useless life were burning in torment for all eternity as they insisted they could make it on their own.

"Hurt her love rival by spreading rumours," read an angel.

I cringed

"Lied to cover up a mistake she made," he read on.

"Pocketed a trinket thinking no one would notice."

The list went on. I willed the ground to swallow me but it refused to comply.

"Turned to Jesus Christ, accepted His pardon bought for her when He died on the cross to pay for her sins, and believed He came back to life the third day."

Finally, something positive.

"Was knocked down by a car as she left the church after accepting Jesus Christ. Died on the spot."

I cringed again. Nothing to show for my life after that.

The angel finally closed the book with the story of my life.

Then He opened another, the book of Life and read.  "Penelope," he looked up at the Judge. "Her name is here."

The Judge, the Lamb on the throne looked down at me. His fiery eyes shone with love.

"I'm sorry, I'm unworthy" my voice quivered. "I only got  you. Can I hide behind you?" I rambled.

He gave me an assuring smile. "You accepted my pardon, just in time."

"She's made worthy by my blood that washed away all her sins," said the Lamb on the throne.

The angel led me away to the waiting saints as another took my place.
