Chapter Four

How many meetings can you fit in a singular day? Briar was exhausted. She'd had to stand all day speaking with men who thought they knew more than her. Did they know how to toss a smoke cannister into a room and annihilate everyone in it before the smoke cleared? She doubted it. They'd probably forgotten how to even fire a weapon.

She knew something was wrong. With either the Empire or the Rebellion. Either way, the Inferno Squad was ramping up their missions. More and more Rebellion groups were popping up. There would be no way to get ahead if they didn't allow more troopers to enter her squadron.

She had just set her helmet down on the holder located on her desk, Alexis prancing into her quarters. Sometimes she regretted giving her the passcode.

"Hey, did you want to drink tonight? I know you've had a long day but still wanted to extend the invitation." Alexis was out of her uniform, wearing 'normal' clothes. Consisting of still all black, just not work issued. The Empire would not be featured in a style magazine.

Briar's body ached as she sat at her desk chair, watching Alexis sit down gingerly at the edge of her bed.

"You never talked about your meeting with the Second Sister five days ago."

"There's nothing to talk about. She's holding back information like the entire Empire. But, it's the only meeting I'll have with her, so it doesn't matter." Briar finally realized how bothered she had been by the Second Sister. She was alluring, she'd admit that. But she was also the Empire through and through. She'd always have her secrets. Briar would probably never be able to get the truth from her. If the Inquisitor took her mask off, it'd be harder to lie to Briar then.

Alexis chewed over Briar's response, slapping her thighs as she rose from her commander's bed. "Come on, just have one drink with me. Loosen up, you've been talking with men all day that have sticks up their ass's."

Briar chuckled, rising and undressing. "Fine."

There was soft music playing in the bar, storm troopers all over, some still wearing their uniforms without helmets. They all stared at the two women, immediately recognizing them as superior to them. Some scowled, some nodded their heads in acknowledgment.

Alexis forced her through the crowd towards the bar, an excited giggle emitting from her teammates throat. You'll regret this. You'll either see an ex or get too drunk to catch your meeting in the morning.

"Two Naboo Coolers!" Alexis shouted at the bartender, earning a glare from Briar.

"You know I can handle only one and a half of those!"

"Oh shut up and go to that standing table over there." Briar rolled her eyes, moving towards the empty table as people moved to get out of her way. They acted as if she was the sole trooper called upon to take Iden Versio's place once she had left. Oh wait, she was.

Alexis placed the drinks on the table, looking around the crowd as the band kicked up more music. Alexis swayed her body, attempting to take a drink while still in motion. Briar watched how care free she was, realizing why they had clicked instantly so many years ago. Alexis was her sail. Briar was holding her, but she'd never stop her from moving.

"See anyone?" Alexis wiggled her eyebrow at her superior, earning another eye role. Briar finally took the first sip of her drink, the smooth liquid sliding down her throat with ease. She felt her body relax in response, sighing softly as tension eased from her shoulders.

"I saw one of my exes as we entered. The one that told me how obsessed with me she was."

"Ew, yeah, I remember her. Glad you called that off when you did. I was afraid she was going to come to my living quarters to find you!" Alexis laughed loudly at her own statement, hitting the table in excitement. Briar took large swallows of her drink, hoping to quickly feel as at ease as Alexis was.
