Chapter Six
Briar threw her helmet down seconds after entering the war room, Admiral Versio and the other Generals in the room turning towards the pissed off Commander.
"You want to tell me why the stronghold of Kashyyyk was just LEVELED by a Reaper?! I would have been in there!" She was seething. Her face felt hot, her fists bawled as she waited for the stupefied Admiral to speak.
"Commander Adair, you have no right-"
Briar picked up the data file closest to her on the table, throwing in onto the floor. The tablet shattered, showering her boots with glass. "You sent me on a death mission! If you wanted me replaced you could have asked for my resignation."
Admiral Versio smoothed his shocked expression, staring deeply into Briar's green eyes with distaste.
"Although I would love your resignation, I do not have any knowledge of that order or who carried it out." Lie. Briar shook her head, giving up on obtaining any information from the useless Admiral. She stormed out, her boots crunching on the broken glass as she left the war room.
The heels of her boots slapped against the black tiled floors, echoing off the bare walls as she power walked to her next destination. She stopped at the door, hitting her key card against the reader before she impatiently waited for the door to open. She needed answers.
Briar stepped into the intelligence room, the wall to wall monitors showing surveillance of different planets. Some troopers continued to type away at their data pads, one trooper in particular stopping in his tracks as he caught sight of the Commander.
She moved around the screens and troopers, her eyes never leaving the blue eyes of the man who still owed her for going out with that crazy bitch so he didn't have to.
"Drax, how are you today?" She asked sweetly.
His dark skin furrowed as he watched her with caution. His eyes fell to her A-180 blaster in the holster on her thigh. He gulped, raising his eyes to hers again.
"What can I help you with, Commander?" His fingers were hovering over the data pad, shaking softly.
"The Inquisitors are tagged, right? Just like everyone else in the Empire?" Drax's chest froze mid breath, looking around to ensure no one else was listening to them. He closed out his data pad, leaning closer to her with a hushed voice. He was about to speak when his superior walked by, taking in Briar's presence before continuing to walk around.
Commander Adair's wrist was grabbed, Drax leading her out of the room after his data pad was grabbed. He didn't stop leading her until they were in a maintenance closet five hallways away from the intelligence room. They were cramped in there, standing in the dark.
"I can't just track an inquisitor. They're notified if their tracking device is honed into." Drax explained in a hurry.
Briar chuckled, lowering her helmet until it rested on their feet. They were so close the tips of their boots were touching.
"Great, she'll know who it is."
"She?"
"The Second Sister. Tell me where she is, right now." Drax's data pad lit up, illuminating Briar's steel gaze towards the man that knew he had to help her. He sighed, lowering the screen so Briar could watch him work.
He opened an app, typing in the necessary codes. The list of Inquisitors popped up, Briar's eyes trailing to the second name on the list. Drax's finger hovered over the Second Sister's name, knowing he would be in deep shit.
